Sen, your above prediction will highly likely come true.

You are so cute. You cover all possiblilities except 3-0 to ENG... lol ...:):):)

Agree with SEN, it could be 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2 for INA (most probably 3-1) or 3-1 or 3-2 for ENG. The only undisputable pt is MS, 'cos every other MS should be able to beat Andrew Smith.

To make the INA journey smooth, I would suggest Alvent/Candra come into play. As good as Markis/Hendra is, they are up against experienced WC runnerup pair with an outstanding coach (who beat them in WC2006)

I just checked the Sudirman history. Team Indonsia has NEVER beat team China before in Sudirman, but lost SIX times to team China in Sudirman . What a head to head record.

CHN - KOR? What can I say, except a 3-0 scoreline. Could be 3-1, but only if KOR XD can wipe the smile of the smiling assassin and make her scold her chubby partner.

    Okay, here is my preview..

:p..looking ahead to the Semifinals day, though a bit early:p:)..
For this post, I'll be focusing on the 2nd Semifinals match, the main event of the night, between ENG and INA, which should be a very interesting and barn-burning showdown..:p:D;)
*Not to undermine the KOR squad, but the CHN vs. KOR match is pretty much a foregone conclusion, but i'll chime in as well for that matchup..:p..
    So, here's my 2 cents:

IMO, this will be where strategies and player selections come into play. Not only do the INA's & ENG's squads need to think about their players and lineup formation for the Semifinals, but also, for their upcoming match(Final), should either advance to the Final. But first things, first, that is to take care of business in the Semis.
For INA & ENG to win, IMO, they will have to put their best players out there. Because their main objective is to reach the Final. No way and no buts about what they need to do.
This is my proposed lineup for the INA squad, as i mentioned, earlier, in the Day 3 thread(eventhough that was against CHN):
MS - Taufik H....or if the coaches are gutsy enough, they could field Sony D.K., to give Taufik another extra day of rest:p
WS - Maria Kristin..The chances might not be on her side, but if she needs to shake off some nerves before the possible Final appearance, this could be a good match for her..
WD - Gresyia Polii & Lilyana Natsir..This is a bit tricky, as forcing Vita to play this event, might effect the lineup for XD. However, if this pair is able to force a rubber set, even if they lose, it can affect Gail Emms if she plays in the XD.
MD - Candra & Alvent. This is also tricky, as ENG might field the double-duty specialist Anthony Clark, so i've gotta go with the "veterans". But if the MD is to be played in middle 3 events, then i'd probably go with the younger Kido & Setiawan and hope for the best:p
XD - Flandy & Vita...Sorry, after seeing numerous shortcomings, i just have to go with Flandy this time again, as this is, arguably, the key match. This match as this could go first or last. Getting a point in this match is crucial.:p
INA's best scenario is to have the MD match as the last event, as that could very well save a bit more energy for their MD players, esp. Candra & Alvent, should they advance to the Final.

    For the ENG squad:
MS - ???...whoever it is, he'll probably take it as a good sparring match..:p
WS - Tracey Hallam. The veteran steps up to take her shot.
WD - Donna Kellogg & Gail Emms. ENG's top WD pair.
MD - Anthony Clark & Robert Blair. Consistent & ENG's top MD pair.
XD - Nathan Robertson & Gail Emms. If Gail Emms is not too tired from playing the WD event, she can do some damage. However, she'll be playing double duty, if ENG is forced to go the whole 5 events.
ENG's best scenario is to have either the WD or XD as the last match. Separating those 2 events, as far as possible, might save Gail Emms' energy, should they advance to the Final.

The outcome of INA vs. ENG match will somewhat depend on the order of play. That's why the players chosen for the XD event is somewhat crucial, as it could go as the 1st or last and if it's the 1st event, it could set the "rhythm" for the subsequent events.

As for CHN vs. KOR, i would assume CHN will send its top players to guarantee a Final appearance. For KOR, personally, i would put the same lineup as they fielded against the INA on the 1st day of competition, and hope to give a bit of a run to the CHN squad. I think they should be very happy if they can give an all out effort against the strong CHN squad.;)

All in all, it looks to be one heck of a day, as the homecrowd support will definitely be there....:D;)[IMG]

That I am not sure as coach Li usually like to show off his arsenal by fielding his best players. Korea is not a bad team and there are still lots to play for.

in 1989 who is the winner of this cup?

see the last Sudirman Cup, how the Indonesia team was? GREAT reaching Final after sent-off Denmark 3-0, with players that difficult to get victory in Tour

reaching No. 1 position in div. 1-B its already an UPSET of INDONESIA as unseeded TEAM,
its not easy for indonesia to beat ENG (consider ENG performance beating MAS) but I still say Indonesia can get point from MS, MXD, and WS (its true, I think noe 1 point is came from WS) for MD 50-50, WD 40-60 for ENG

    Yes, they're seeded...

...but not as the top 4, i believe...Hmm, forgot to add(as editing time ran out), if INA can avoid playing the MD and ENG can avoid playing the WD or XD, that'll be beneficial, if either should advance to the Final..;)

I think ENG will field Emms/Robertson in XD, they are more stable than Clark/Kellogg.

Clark will concentrate on MD with Blair, but Emms will have to do double duty with Kellogg in WD.

Dunno about INA WD, is Greysia/Lilyana stronger than Greysia/Vita? At least we know Greysia/Vita can match and even beat MAS, JPN top pairs, so they could be good bets against ENG WD. But I suppose in so doing, Vita has to do double duty with Flandy Limpele in XD since Nova/Lilyana are not clicking well.

This is my prediction of INA Line up:

MS: Simon santoso ...he needs to play at least once and rest TH.
    WS: Maria Kristin
    MD: Alvent/Chandra
    XD: Flandy/Vita
    WD: Polii/Lilyana

They can beat ENG with 4-1

Of course, INA is the top of 1989 inaugural SC. INA beat DEN 5-0 in SF and KOR 3-2 at last round. Meanwhile CHN itself defeated by KOR 2-3 in semifinal duel.
INA had dumped CHN twice until 10th Sudirman Cup contest. 1991, CHN lost 2-3 at group-stage and 1993, same score 2-3 in last four.

INA's superb performance when tamed DEN with score 3-0 got an anticlimax in finale lost to CHN 0-3. Hopefully,it's not happen again this time.

*CHN vs KOR -- very clear result for the hot-fave. CHN will claim 3-0 directly through first three matches. But doubtly if LYB still play LD after his dissapointing lost to LCW. Maybe CJ will replace LD to challenge Park Sung Hwan.

*INA vs ENG -- 3-2. Three points for INA will coming from MS,WD,XD.

Upcoming dreamfinal CHN vs INA will set in Glasgow. If ENG create another new history to secure final berth for the 1st time, CHN will be very glad of this and final episode will lose of excitement.

Greysia Polii/Vita Marissa HAVE BEATEN Gail Emms/Donna Kellogg in several tourneys this year:
    R16 Yonex All-England Open 2007 21-18, 21-18
    R16 Wilson Badminton Swiss Open 2007 21-15, 21-15.

I think INA has an advantage in WD

Right on . . . smiling assassin is good name for GL. But as we saw in the last tournament when GL scoded & quarrelled with ZB, they still won the match. GL is too experience. Olympic champion with another chubby ZJ.
    I predict 3-0 to Chn.

Agree, but what if Greysia pairs with Lilyana, are they still superior?

    Assumption:
    (1) Order of play will be XD-MS-WS-MD-WD.
    (2) In SF & F, the match will be over when one of the teams has won 3 ties.

    My predictions:

    A) CHN-KOR 3-0
    XD: CHN
    MS: CHN
    WS: CHN
I believe that CHN can seal the victory in the first 3 ties.

    B) INA-ENG 3-2
    XD: 50-50
    MS: INA
    WS: ENG
    MD: INA
    WD: ENG
INA can claim victory in MS & MD whereas ENG can grab WS & WD. XD is a 50-50 battle which I believe is the crucial point for the match. Anyway, I predict a close match but INA has the slight edge over ENG. However, I hope for an upset.
