So Nigeria players didn't reach on time? Tournament software shows Malaysia win 5-0.

Haiseh, poor thing, press reports said if the players dont arrive 1 hour before match start, then automatic Nigeria lose the tie.

Nigeria forfeited a walkover. Denmark replaces Malaysia on the TV court.

    Damn, Wang Yihan is ruthless.

I think it is better for their confidence that they don't turn up :) Good luck to them against Japan...

Why didn't they leave Nigeria sooner so they could arrive on time? Is the hotel fare too expensive even for just one night? Or they don't know how long it will take to reach Malaysia?

I read from badzine.info that Nigeria is lack of funding and there had been flight problems.

Sometime ago when the prelims were going on I said that having qualifiers from specific continents was a waste of time that just like hockey there should be world qualifiers where the best compete in 4 or 5 qualifiers held around the world not continent based. People said we need to promote the game. No shows in a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. I wonder how this promotes the game. Please enlighten!!!! It is a joke and a disgrace to our much beloved badminton. And I don't see how these countries getting thrashed in the Thomas and Uber Cup will help. If I was a South African knowing that my team is getting wacked I'd rather pick up soccer or hockey or cricket....something else at least. Just like in Singapore. Hockey, badminton and squash are dying sports cause our national teams are not there...but table tennis is popular......

    group c

Can somebody explain to me why Group C in Thomas cup (Denmark, Germany, Poland ) has all European countries ?

Isn't there a rule in international team tournaments that teams from the same continent cannot meet each other at group stages, only if necessary ?

This really should have been avoided. That group seems so dull. It would have been nice to have the European countries playing in other groups with other top badminton countries rather than squeezing all of them into 1 single group.

No upsets are recorded today. Everything went according to paper. I hope the surprises will start after the round robin matches... :)
