Cai Yun vs Fu HaiFeng should be interesting too. CY is bringing up a kid and they may be the better pair at the moment. Fu/Zhang can potentially be very intriguing.
why do you think CY/LuKai would be a better pair at the moment? I've seen Lukai play but i think he kinda sucks. I think Fu/Zhang is probably more polished pair at the moment.
IMHO Gavnholt's win over Pai YP in 3 sets can be attributed to some extent to yesterday's match schedule. Gavenolt played in the morning session. Even if her match had ended at 1.30 pm she would still have time to take a shower, have a quick bite and have a good 2-hour nap before the deciding qualifying match. On the other hand the AY/PYP match only started at 3 pm and ended slightly before 4. This left very little time for PYP to rest before warming up again for the said match. Why can't the schedule be planned in such a way so that the first round matches are played at about the same time if the winners are down to play each other in the deciding round? Surely more courts can be used or why not start the qualifying matches on Monday? In this way the qualifiers will also not be unnecessarily worn out when they play in the main draw. I don't think PYP is a teenager. After the tough match against AY it would have been very difficult for her to last another 3-setter against Gavnholt who happened to be the second seed after so little rest. Even teenage AY would have found it an uphill task. Not trying to find an excuse for PYP's defeat or take anything away from Gavnholt's win. I have never seen both of them play and is a fan of neither. Just giving my opinion on how the AE can be better organised.
Yeah, playing two matches a day in a high level tournament can sometimes throw up surprises due to the scheduling and possible disadvantage to slightly older veterans. I suspect it took a toll on Nan Wei in the second match though the younger LDK is not one to be trifled with. I noticed Pai Yu Po was playing two singles and one women's doubles in the qualies and she lost both the second WS match and the WD which I think were played only just a few hours apart.
oh do you know what injury he got? edit: just read that it is a calf injury. so maybe just because of the tight first round match.. some heavy cramping.. at least that's what i hope..
