2016 Badminton Asia Championships (Thurs, 28 April)

Another half an hour till the live stream @ CCTV+5 to start. The other INA XD pair : Tontowi/Natsir vs. XuChen/MaJin will collide.
 
What an interesting R2 for WS oO:

  • TTY barely making through G2 and trashing Sindhu in G3// Although Honestly a focus TTY is no match for Sindhu
  • Sayaka Sato, the most inconsistent Japanese Player seems to be quite on fire against the 3 times SS champion Ratchanok Intanon leading 19-17 in G3- EDIT: Winning against RI!!! :O
  • Akane Yamaguchi showing very positive sign of good form after pushing her encounter with the veteran LXR to 3 games and 19-21! She did better than Nozomi Okuhara. That's positive even if she lost!
 
P.V. Sindhu ran out of steam at deciding game, 21-8 for Tai TY victory. A big upset is created by Sayaka Sato to stop world number one Ratchanok Intanon in marathon match, 17-21 / 21-16 / 21-17.

Sindhu is out of breath, stamina as usual in the 3rd.
 
There is stamina but there is also skills. TTY doesn't have much more stamina then Sindhu, however her technical skills allow her to win points with much less running/ rallying than Sindhu hence TTY being less tired

Sayaka l;ost a lot of weight coming back from serious injury, feel happy for her :D
Good player, met her back in 2009 ;)

Actually, Sindhu ran out of steam in the 3rd game. Nothing else. She has beaten TTY before. Your statement is completely wrong. Sindhu no match for TTY ? Lol. Focused Sindhu would beat anybody in the world, TTY is nothing. She was leading 11-6 in the second game and had match point 20-19 but eventually lost the focus and ran out of steam in the third game.

Considering her young age, TTY is very very experienced.

And it seems Ratchanok does not want this BAC title? ! She lost to Sayaka sato ! seriously, lucky sayaka has a chance to move ahead.

I think she has potential but in the last 5/6 years that I have followed her she has always been this hit or miss kinda player, very emotionnal on court, making tons of unenforced errors :/ However this definitely shows some progress indeed!

Hope Sindhu does not lose focus in the matches like this. RIO is nearby .

TTY is the most technically skilled player on the WS tour along with LXR and RI. There's no denying this. She actually has a better backhand than RI, probably as good as LXR. Hence my statement that she is far above Sindhu in terms of skills: deception, backhand, net play. Sindhu ran out of steam because she had to cover and run to all the four corners of the court with a player such as TTY. So yes I stand by my statement sorry :x

That's not saying that Sindhu is not talented, she is in the top 10 after all :)

Wow Xu Chen/ Ma Jin lost G1 12-21. Seems like Natsir Ahmad are in form today

Lol. That's why , the most skilled player did not get even a single world championship medal yet after such a long long long period in the senior circuit since 2010. Sindhu got 2 medals. I still stand by my view. Technical skills alone won't get you what you want. TOday TTY is lucky enough to get past Sindhu after barely escaping the second game. I accept. You don't have to agree. Let her win medals in world championships and RIO, i accept then. Sindhu will play totally a different game when she play big matches in big events. ;)

Lol are you serious? A bronze medal in World Championship is pretty non-significant since it's every year.. And TTY won four Superseries Titles and won her first SS title at the age of 16 years old and has been in 4 other SS finals. (sindhu doesn't have a single one and has only been to one SS final..) TTY has been in the Top 10 for as long as I can remember.

The only thing holding TTY back is that she is way too creative and make tons of mistakes because of that.She is one of the most gifted player no doubt about it. "TTY is lucky enough to get past Sindhu" => Just LOL. I'll leave it at that.

Let's focus on the tournament.
 
After a disastrous start in XD (3 defeats to 3 KOR pairs), Team INA finally manages the first win of the day. Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir finished off Xu Chen/Ma Jin in straight-sets 21-12, 21-16; despite the CHN pair holding a comfortable 14-8 lead in the second set. It should be a straight-forward route to the Final for Owi/Butet, but anything can happen. Choi Solgyu/Eom Hye Won await them in the QF tomorrow.

Tommy Sugiarto also fulfills his seeding after a straight-sets victory over the veteran Thai player Boonsak Ponsana. He's likely to face the top-seed Chen Long tomorrow.
