    Yes, this is true.

Generally, less support from government and their sports associations. Some SG athletics had to turn to crowd-funding to chase their Olympic dream.

don't think they can just select young players in if they are not ranked high enough.

This is what I read, contents unverified :

While the whole nation celebrates J. Schooling's Gold medal in swimming, very little is known of his road to success. Here is a letter from a Singaporean retiree.........,

"As a nation, a people, a country, a govt., and as individuals, we did almost nothing to help Schooling get to the gold medal. We did not finance him, did not support him, the PAP choose not to groom and encourage this boy.

Very little of our money went to training him, and providing him the necessary support, compared to the millions we lavish on 3rd class athletes from China and elsewhere. Not only did we not support him, we almost killed his career by making him do NS. When I say we, I mean the 70% of the morons that supported and elected the PAP.

If his mother May did not fight MINDEF to get his deferment, he might still be in the SAF now doing NS. There was no mass petition from Singaporeans calling for his deferment. there was no mass calling by the MPs to support him. There was no media support for him, and certainly no support from the Singapore National Olympics Committee for his deferment.

Instead, 2 angmos (one was his swim coach in University of Texas, Gregg Troy) and the other a technical director, Bill Swetenham of SSC, wrote in their support to ask for his deferment. Not one PAP ******* or notable sinkie stood up for this boy.

But now that he won the Gold, everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon and be proud of him. I say that you don't have that right. Singaporeans have not earned the right to claim the limelight with him. Where were they went he needed them? Sinkies are really pathetic hypocrites.

Although I am born and raised in Singapore, I am ashamed of our treatment of this boy, and I certainly cannot rejoice without a hint of embarassment that we as a people almost killed this great moment." Only a Malaysian fought for him. His mom.

LYB knew this match was going to be crucial, what surprised me LYB came to the court side approaching Natsir/Ahmad and congratulated them for their victory. Good to see that.

sg broadcaster mediacorp even got the 'live' coverage deal done in the last minute due to financial considerations. and MP lend support by saying that it is ok to watch delayed telecast due to the time lag between sg and rio, and pple would be working instead of watching the race. yet mediacorp always splash $ to invite overseas stars to present awards in their annual TV award ceremony.

Haven't heard much about Butet but Ahmad has a daughter and his beautiful wife would take their daughter to cheer up when daddy's practicing in PBSI. :)

Bring him back to Malaysia lah lol. After all he did swim for Perak (where his mum is from) when he was younger. Now some Malaysian media are going on about how he used to represent Perak state etc. Sour grapes. Time cannot be turned back.

Congrats to MAS for entering the XD finals!
It is a Southeast Asian affair, started in swimming, the 100m Butterfly by Singapore's Joseph Schooling, who beat a strong field of
champions, which included Michael Phelps in record OR time.
The MAS pair is unseeded! What an upset! One gold medal taken off from China!

This sg retiree is another internet troll......obviously (if he is singaporean at all) he is part of the 30% the voted the NATO (no action talk only) opposition..........everything blame PAP (the government), medal or no medal, ns or deferment, it's all government fault and 70% of us are the morons.............in his retirement years already, still complaining.......might as well do something to change it, offer some solutions, form a political party, do it the way you think should be done............or just donate his kidneys while still healthy.......10 years waiting list for needy recipients at NKF

Not bad. Not bad at all. It is a price of house in the Midwest, East Coast or Texas.
