The annual China Badminton Super League is now in its Ninth Edition and kicks off on the 4th of December 2018 and will spread over to 19 January 2019.

The CBSL is a mixed team event similar to the Sudirman Cup comprising Men's Singles, Women's Singles, Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.

Tournament format as before, consisting of two stages, first, the group stage on double round-robin for home and away ties, and then the knock-out stage for the top four teams in the semifinals on a single tie followed by Final's Day and 3rd/4th Place Playoff. Only in the group stage shall all five matches be played in every tie, the elimination stage needing only three match wins to decide the tie.

However, this year's edition adopts the 15-point rally scoring system of best of 3 games per match, deuce at 14-all requiring 2 clear points to win, sudden death at 19-all to maximum 20 points, but the decider is limited to 11-points , no deuce, the first to score 11 points wins the match.

As we know, last year's CBSL had only seven teams participating as the Guangzhou Team was forfeited at the eleventh hour for its involvement in a financial scandal relating to outstanding payments owing to Lin Dan and seven other players, which violated the CBSL Disciplinary and Penalty Regulations. For this year, we are back to eight teams participating, as Shenzhen Team was promoted to the top 8 teams based on their performance last year.

Nevertheless, badminton fans may be disappointed to know that this year's edition will be notable for the absence of two mega star players, namely, the ever popular Lin Dan and his fellow compatriot and archrival , Chen Long, as both of them have opted to take a break before fully immersing themselves in the CBA traditional yearly winter training (a systematic, comprehensive yet targeted training program usually lasting 55 days beginning from January, sometimes even as early as in late December, if I'm not wrong) with a view to better prepare for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualification cycle slated for 2019 April 29 to 2020 April 26.

Rules and Regulations as in here https://www.sohu.com/a/256934502_505509

Tournament schedule, each team shall play maximum three ties per week on the following dates:
    http://badminton.sport.org.cn/home/xwkd/2018-12-04/537076.html
2018, December 4th, 6th and 8th,after that there is one week break during the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals, then it resumes on 2018 December 18 to 2019 January 10th, again limited to three ties per week for the group stage (exact dates not given yet). Semifinals on 2019 January 18th and Final on January 19th, including the 3rd/4th playoff.

Either no takers when the bidding process closed or junior players like him are from clubs with so many world-class players that their services are not needed.

Also no MS Li Shifeng, WS Hui Xirui, for example, and a few other lesser names that we've seen before.

Maybe that's one of the intentions when Qingdao bid for Ko Sung Hyun but with Shin Baek Cheol also in the team, they will probably shuffle the three around to confuse the opponents, a good strategy.

Oh, thanks to gelopisan who first posted the link, sometimes we get live telecasts on CCTV5-Sports as well as replays, a primetime TV channel in China, but for non-international or leser events, it's usually limited to three hours of airtime in the earlier rounds at most.

    CCTV5.com here http://sports.cctv.com/2018/12/04/VIDEAC5xhBHJn2n9IVK7RP8r181204.shtml

Preferably watch CBSL matches on zhanyutv http://www.zhangyu.tv/channeltypes/badminton (need to disable adblocks and as Adobe Flash Player is required, it may not work on some browsers like Google but works fine on Firefox with Flash Player enabled)

Btw, even Li Xuerui was worried at first that she might not get any bidders during the CBSL bidding process a few months ago, partly also because she's from Chongqing, one of China's four municipalities directly under the administration of the central government together with Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin, as where she's from never have a strong badminton club.

Fortunately, Xiamen Defang, one of the top 3 teams , bid for her and, incidentally, her fellow junior national teammate, Han Yue, is also in the same team as she is from Zhangzhou in Fujian provicne where Xiamen is located.

Other names absent include Zhao Junpeng, Li Shifeng, Lin Guipu
World and Asian junior champions like Guo Xinwa, Di Zijian, Wang Chan also not playing.

But nice to see Sun Yu and Hong Wei on the roster. Tian Houwei playing in India again?

Good to see 19yo Weng Hongyang beating Ng Ka Long in two games

Guo Xinwa playing for Qingdao in doubles. Yes, surprisingly, Zhao Junpeng is absent ( I double-checked as I thought I could've missed him out). Btw, Zhao Junpeng is from Nanchang, Jiangxi province, not one of the top 8 teams so I guessed nobody bid for him.

Lin Guipu has already said after his semifinals finish at the FISU World University Games that he's not taking part in the CBSL so as to devote his time to intensive training in preparation for his comeback in the pro circuit next year.

Di Zijian and Wang Chang are out too. Correct, Tian Houwei has opted for PBL, probably invited again after his commendable performance last year and the money's good too for one just week's work unlike the CBSL which is spread over one month and entails travelling for all the away matches (though the money is quite attractive for the class A participants, say, Zhang Nan, Liu Cheng, Zheng Siwei,Huang Yaqiong, Jia Yifan, Chen Qingchen, Li Junhui, Liu Yuchen and class B players, say Shi Yuqi, Chen Yufei, He Bingjiao, Wang Yilu, Sun Yu, Li Yinhui, Qiao Bin, Hong Wei, Huang Dongping, and Yu Xiaohan - as indicated in this list https://baijiahao.baidu.com/s?id=1617392237688364688&wfr=spider&for=pc)
