Malaysia’s WJC silver medalist Noraqilah and Zi Yu beat the Pan American junior gold medalists in the final.

I don’t know what this reporter is smoking when writing his report but Audrey and Jasmine are nowhere near world number 22.

Estland open IC

In the European women team championships Bulgaria beat France 4-1. Both fielded their strongest players. France still has some way to go on the women side.

France women team lost also to Turkey and is out. Denmark, Turkey, Bulgaria and Ukraine go on to the semi finals.

But the most surprising result today must be that my native country Sweden beat Germany and made it to the semi finals of the men’s tournament. This is a first for Sweden and given the state of Swedish badminton the past years, quite astounding. The final match, MS3, was won by Gabriel Ulldahl. He is 37. He peaked in 2013 (WR 87), ended his career in 2017 but came back 2023 to be runner-up in the Swedish championships. No idea why he was selected for the team, but what a hero! ;)

2026 Pan Am Male & Female Badminton Cup

Per https://bwfbadminton.com/tournament/5733/pan-am-mf-cup-2026/results/

Today we will have:
- Female Cup semifinal: Canada vs Mexico. USA vs Brazil.
- Male Cup semifinal: Canada vs Mexico. USA vs Brazil.

Two years ago:
- Female Cup final: Canada beat Brazil (all semifinals and final have score 3-0).
- Male Cup final: Canada beat USA (all semifinals and final have score 3-0 with 2 walkovers).

Hopeful for more competitive games today.
In male event, Canada is still the top dog.
In female event, we might see an exciting final games.

It will be Denmark v Bulgaria and Denmark v France today in the women and men tournaments respectively.

Bulgaria beat Turkey with Stefani Stoeva scoring two wins, in WS2, and WD1 with her sister.

Sweden of course had no chance against France. Toma Popov beat Ulldahl 21-12, 21-12 in MS3. Funnily, BWF had head-to-head data for this unlikely pairing: Popov had beaten him twice before, as a 17-year-old, in 2016. :-)

Today France looks likely to win over Denmark in the final and formally take over as the top European nation in men’s badminton. They have an extremely deep MS with WRs 7, 8, 17 and 36 on the team.

Things are getting interesting in the women final. Young Kaloyana Nalbantova won against Line Kjaersfeldt in WS1 and Stefani Stoeva is up 22-20 and 9-3 against Mia Blichfeldt. Given that Bulgaria ’s strongest card, the Stoeva sisters in WD1, us yet to come, this could be a big upset. The Danish players are not living up to their rankings so far.

Bulgaria beat Denmark 3-1 in the final! Stoeva sisters easily won WD1 to secure the championship. Well done!

Gotta praise Badminton Europe also for a great coverage. All matches broadcast, with commentators, multiple cameras and replays on one court. They also released a new app that I think is very good.

Sri-Lanka IC & IS during Mar-26 are going to be conducted or not?. So far brochure is NOT issued .

After Cristo losing out failing to produce his best, Lanier comes to the rescue defeating Gemke who put up some resistence.

Yes, France has won European men's team championship. It shows the progression of the country (unfortunetaly, not in the wowen side).
That's a good news for french badminton !

France won

It looks like this was the first time ever that the Danish men’s team didn’t win. And of course the first time neither of their teams won. Will be interesting to see France and Bulgaria in Thomas and Uber cup.

Canada won both male and female event at Pan-Am Cup 2026.
Their team will represent North and South America at incoming Thomas and Uber Cup.

In male event, Canada beat America 3-1. America got its only point from MD1.

In female event, America was able to level the games at 2-2 with their WD1 and WD2. Unfortunately, it lost the last match.
The key game was the first WS1. Michele Li won over Beiwen Zhang 14-21, 21-19, 21-19. Pretty even games. Almost.... almost.

Bulgaria’s results are amazing

Kaloyana Nalbantova is 2024 European Junior Champion

Stefani Stoeva basically only ever played singles in team/club events prior to 2024 (WD on the circuit) and then started entering singles after Paris Olympics. She is an ex U17 European WS gold medal winner.

Interestingly France won with the Popovs who are originally Bulgarian…
