She was an up-and-coming player when she suffered a very bad knee injury in a match against Dai Wang. Recuperated for two years before she came back to play in the 2024. WJC.
A protege of Han Li and should be 20 this year. Her cohorts like T Miyazaki and Pitchamon have gone on to much higher tournaments while her ranking is still in the 100+.
Good that she has finally won a title this year.
 
Sun Chao should be recalled immediately to the Chinese national team and be sent to play outside China whatever his differences with the CBA. He is 23 like Dong Tian Yao. With the implementation of the 3×15 format of play, he still have at least 7 years of badminton to go.

It’s crazy how he’s lost 1 competitive BWF match in his whole career (which was a final) and yet cannot play outside China.

I mean no disrespect but Maya is not a XD player. It looked like Yuta was playing with a make a wish partner for charity. It makes no sense how they can be this bad against a pair that they should beat in single digits.
 
to be fair, it was not just maya, looks like yuta was not his usual self in that match. they certainly redeemed themselves at Singapore open yesterday.

Bonn International. I am following it because HK has some just graduated from juniors and a junior pair entered. The WS player never got going against Tanvi Patri.

One HK player got to the SF MS

One HK junior pair got to SF MD by beating the French second seeds in the QF. French pair are ranked 151 in the world. HK pair have their 17th birthdays this year.

Not a bad outing for 2 out of 4 entries to get to the SF.

Possibly the field is a bit weaker as there is a concurrent IC in Denmark this week.
 
HK badminton should be happy with the results in Bonn. One champion in MS and a runner up in MD.

On another note, HK is in the final of the 3 Borders junior tournament for WS. No other HK juniors entered. Ip Sum Yau is against Micah Cruz - they both played recently in, I think, Bulgaria and ISY won that.

It’s very unusual for HK to send junior players to these European tournaments. We heard some of the junior players got sent to Europe to improve their ranking for Youth Olympic selection. ISY is the highest ranked singles player. Maybe HK badminton want her ranking to be even higher for seeding in the Asian Junior and World Junior Championships.

Tanvi reached the final of Latvia International which is designated Future Series. She lost in two sets to a HK player IP Sum Yau. Both players are still U19.

Something to keep an eye on for HK players is that Tanvi beat HK player Wong Yi in Bonn with a very convincing score but then is beaten herself by ISY who is junior to Wong Yi by three years. Can predict the new HK girls are going to be highly competitive against each other. The older HK WS players (but not old) such as Happy and Saloni have demonstrated some limitations.

It would be suitable to say " Both are U 17players than both are U19 players ". Because Tanvi is 15 and HK player is 16.
Tanvi played 3 senior tournaments. One SF and 2 finals. The itself a huge achievement for a 15 year old.

I am not sure of Tanvi’s exact age which is why I hestitated to say more on this aspect.

Both players are going to Asia Junior Championships. Women’s singles event is going to be a strong event

Pity that I can't watch this. Would be nice to see the rising stars likr Vitidsar in WS.
No Malaysians left except XD now in finals
 
Two small tournaments this week. Quite a small entry for the Singapore tournament. I think the Vietnam tournament is actually the more popular one out of the two tournaments. I think it must be the cost. The official hotel in Vietnam is 4 star and only 40USD per night. HK sent a team of lower ranked players to Vietnam. Seems no live matches from Vietnam. Vietnam live streams for badminton are pretty limited.

I have been focussed on the Vietnam IS this week because of HK interest - many of the players are the developing players.

Quite a successful put for HK having 11 representatives across all disciplines in quarter finals. One guaranteed silver in XD with two HK pairs against each other in the semifinals
