2026 Smaller Tournaments discussion

Malhan a deserved winner in the MS17 beating Chan Yee Hei in the semifinal and giving a commanding performance in the final.

He totally dominated the final out powering and out pacing HK’s Zhan Shing Yui. Zhan is a clever player but here it was a case of modern 15 point games format showing speed and power outperforming skills. Zhan will have to work hard off court to increase his basic speed to keep up.

I feel Malhan’s coaches have prepared very well. I saw them at work with him earlier in the year taking copious notes in his matches. His AJC result wasn’t so good but he was up against older players in that tournament.

Next is the WJC in October. If I were his coach, the target is to get through a few rounds and use the data to set the baseline for next years AJC WJC

HK still waiting for that elusive Junior gold medal in Asian Juniors. It’s been many years.

I find them talented. But need to build strength. I watched one boy against Malhan. He was technically good but Malhan won it by pace, strength and power.

On the results of this tournament, HK U15 girls are very far behind. All the U15 WS were out by R32 which was unpleasant for the coaches. U15 BS were better with a semi finalist and a quarterfinalist.

Just had a look at the African junior championships team event. No updates of today’s matches on website nor the BWF app. No match order at all.

Later this week is the individual African junior championships and there’s no list of the player’s names.

Doesn’t give a feel good factor for the organisation for the World Junior Championships.

I’m watching the African Junior Team championships right now since I have a little Mauritian connection.

Mauritius are battling against Republic of South Africa. I thought South Africa would win easily but it’s turning out to be quite a battle with one game apiece and 28-27 in points in the third game !!

Again no updates of players list nor order of matches on BWF website and badminton4u app. Let’s see if they can sort this technical issue out in the next few days
