Hope someone will make a thread about the new news from BWF regarding the competition starting next year. Good job, BWF.

Seems not enough 100 events. I guess anyone can add those.

England Denmark and HK are the only 1000/750 hosts hosting one tournament.

Would like to see it a requirement that 1000/750 hosts also host at least a WT100 event in the same calendar year. An alternative would be at least having a junior Grand Prix tournament to support junior development.

Wonder who will be the sponsor of the world tour.

I guess HSBC have done well out of their present deal. Hope they can continue.

I am curious with the demotion of Singapore Open and less S300, is the total Yearly Prize Money is that much more than 2026.

Big bump in S1000 Prize money, but less overall tournaments ....

I’m more happy about the fact that BWF has finally extended the competition duration for majors (BWC, Thomas & Uber Cup, Sudirman Cup) to 12 days, and Super 1000 events to 11 days. That’s huge. It means there will be more rest between rounds, allowing players to focus on recovery and perform at their top level, especially in the later rounds. The coverage will also be much better. It’ll be a bit similar to tennis. I also read that they’re going to use a group stage for singles, like at the Olympics. BWF has done a great job, IMO.

And India Open will still remain Super 750 event

Viktor made that tweet last year. It does feel weird to have Super 1000 tournaments when there isn’t much difference between Super 1000 and Super 750 events, except maybe more TV coverage for Super 1000 and of course more prize money. Glad BWF listened to it.

Good to hear that we’ll get TV coverage even for Super 100 tournaments as well. It’ll be easier to follow younger players who are just starting their careers.

The Singapore Open becoming a Super 500 surprised me a bit though. It seems like the event has been successful over the last few years, with a good crowd too. I also wonder why the Korea Open is still a Super 500, considering players like ASY and KWH/SSJ are around.

I don’t know if it’s possible, but I hope BWF moves the Malaysia Open to April or something, like they used to. Putting a Super 1000 event at the beginning of the year, not even a month after the World Tour Finals, feels weird. Players usually take a vacation after the year end finale and the Christmas and New Year holidays, so I don’t think we’ll ever see them truly at their best at the beginning of the year.

India Open and Indonesia Masters in January is enough, IMO.

I guess the move up and down 500 to 750 depends on sponsorship and vice versa depends on sponsorship that is attracted.

I don’t know about that vacation. There used to be a break but then players would be playing in the India badminton league.

Hike in Prize Money is very good. Nice that France is hosting more tournaments!

But, No tournaments in Middle East - UAE/ Saudi where recently badminton is picking up. Existing Abu-Dhabi SS100 is got removed.
Bahrain IS/IC tournaments are better than many super 100/300 tournaments!!

Also no tournaments in Africa [Uganda or Egypt] & South America[Brazil] either !

India is main loser : a) Syed Modi demoted to Super-100 from Super 300. b) Earlier 2 -super -100, now only 1. [Then India should get some more IC/IS/FS tournaments]

Economic superpowers : Japan, South Korea & Taiwan should come forward to put more money in badminton [easily they can conduct USD 2M+ tournaments] even though they have getting medals in recent Olympics. Take inspiration from French/Denmark!!

With more matches, I think winning record like ASY ongoing record will be distant memory ( Of Course Susi's one is eternal)

Also there are more rest, but there will be more matches (Maybe max 7 matches for Singles?). It will be harder to win consecutive tournaments. Players will be on the road more and longer.

But for Doubles, is it still equal to winning 5 matches = Tournament Victory?

For the smaller 300 & 100 tournaments, I don't think BWF will be so stringent in limiting the number of tournaments within the three years. After all, sometimes new sponsors and contracts start and end mid cycle. Definitely 500 and above need to be confirmed for the three years.

The list is just of world tour events and doesn't include IC/IS of which there be will continue to be many across all continents.

"The five Super 1000 tournaments held across Asia and Europe will feature an expanded format. Singles events will include 48 players competing in group and then elimination rounds. "

That means potentially the singles players ranked 33-48 will be able to enter 1000 but not the 750 which is still presumably 32 singles

"doubles events will follow a 32-pair knockout draw. Each tournament will take place over 11 days, spanning two weekends. "

No increase in doubles matches. Doubles players won't have to start so early? Or will singles and doubles be on alternate days?
