https://bwfworldtour.bwfbadminton.c...-badminton-championships-2021/results/draw/wd Draws are posted up. Even though no Olympic ranking points are available, the Japanese team are still playing. Are they in quarantine in UK?
Does anyone know why the Russian team is not coming? What could possibly be more important for them than the All England? Dremin and Dimova were the only ones entered, and they didn't make the draw. What about Kosetskaya? What about previous champions Ivanov and Sozonov? Could the reason be that this tournament doesn't offer olympic points, and so they're playing elsewhere? What is the reason for that by the way? Why doesn't the tournament offer olympic points? (I don't think I've ever written a post containing more question marks than this one. This post is basically one big massive question.)
yea, but is not that big of a loss as to compared to china team, are they gonna play at some point? that is quite ridiculous
The official reason which was announced by the Badminton Federation of Russia - "failed to obtain visas." But few people believe in it.
I heard China, Taiwan, Korea MD are not participating. We don't get to see Lee Yang / Wang Chi Lin, the 2 times back-to-back winner of Thai Open and Thai World Tour
It’s not worth their time to come. No Olympic ranking points and they had good performance in Thailand which secures their position. Good chances for other players who are entering to make a breakthrough. No need to quarantine....
CM won't be AE Champion this year... Except Nozomi Okuhara (winner in 2016), all the former winners in Birmingham are missing. A golden opportunity for P.V. Sindhu ?
https://badminton.dk/2021/03/16/dansk-landstraener-testet-positiv-for-covid-19-til-all-england/ The Danish assistant national coach Thomas Stavngaard has been tested positive for Covid-19 in Birmingham, England. The test was taken on Monday 15 March with a PCR test and carried out as part of the All England tournament's test strategy. Thomas Stavngaard says that he does not feel any symptoms of Covid-19, but conversely feels fresh. Stavngaard and the rest of the Danish delegation have followed all protocols in connection with entry into England and tournament participation to All England. He underwent a PCR test on Friday morning after training at the National Elite Training Center, which was negative. He was to present the negative PCR test in connection with his flight to Heathrow on Sunday afternoon together with the rest of the Danish delegation. The entire Danish delegation was PCR-tested at the hotel on Monday morning at 9.00. Then they went directly to the rooms in isolation, where they remain. It also means that they are not going to train today as planned. The consequence of the positive Covid-19 case is still unknown. That is why Badminton Denmark is in close dialogue with Badminton England, the All England tournament management, BWF and the local authorities. We will provide further information when we receive new information from the above parties.
Difficult to see how they can possibly play now. Some of the Scotland players withdrew as there was a positive case on their flight back from Swiss Open. If they are in isolation with such a loose contact like that, then Denmark with the contact rate being longer won’t have much option here but to pull out. Birmingham is alright this time of year though...
According to Badminton Scotland (FB) only Kirsty is playing , all others withdrawn cause they were on the same flight from Switzerland to Scotland.
Thanks. I wonder how many byes there will be. Can't imagine that all reserver players will be available on such short notice. but who knows.
