It's really a pity that Jo couldn't finish off the match in both the second and decider sets when he was leading 17-15 and then 15-12, respectively. I hope this defeat serves as a motivation for him to work harder and strive for better results in the WJC and Youth Olympics 2014!
Althof Baariq/Reinard Dhanriano lost first-set after a long deuce: 25-27, despite leading 19-16 and having 5 set points. Hmmm....
Yup, she did it to stun He Bingjiao, third seed and 2013 WJC bronze medalist, Liang Xiaoyu will meet another Chinese GS at semifinal, Chen Yufei.
Come on Althof/Reinard, finish off the second-set and don't let the problem of overtaking affect you again this time.
GS semifinal : Chen Yufei (CHN) v Liang Xiaoyu (SIN) Akane Yamaguchi (JPN) v Busanan Ongbumrungpan (THA), this should be close match BS semifinal : Kanta Tsuneyama (JPN) v Zhao Junpeng (CHN) Shi Yuqi (CHN) v Lee Cheuk Yiu (HKG)
With the defeats of both BS and BD pairs, INA will probably only win 1 medal at AJC 2014. Unless the GD pairs can upset the 2 CHN pairs (which are unlikely).
Two INA BD pairs failed to get medal, stopped by Japanese opponent. I'm afraid INA only has sole representative tomorrow
Two more upsets today, J Christie and He BJ, both of whom I expect to see in the finals, lost to unfancied opponents. Goes to show that junior players tend to be unpredictable and inconsistent while they are still at their formative stage, it should improve over time as they gain in experience. Looks like the Busanan vs Akane Y semifinal clash will decide the ultimate WS AJC champion. In the last WJC at Bangkok I had expected Busanan to take the title but perhaps the pressure on home soil got into her, this time I won't be surprised the more experienced Busanan exact her revenge on Akane Y; still, it should be a close battle.
