BWF THOMAS AND UBER CUP 2026 (24-04-2026 to 03-05-2026)

Still, i am surprised France didnt bring Thom Gicquel (being the highest ranked Doubles player) at the start of the tournament. He played against XD big hitters WR1&2s. He could have added diversity and unpredictability.

There would have been an issue in this. This forwarding of Lakshya name for MS1 and then withdrawing would have not gone well politically speaking. Fans would have blasted BAI for showing “cowardice”. Also, one free point would have been given in that scene, which would have not have gone well with fans.

Indonesia did exactly this in Thomas Cup 1998 against China. Their first singles was injured but still went out and played just over one set and retired. If they had promoted their MS2 to MS1 , I doubt they could have won any of the singles. Indonesia ended up winning 3-1 by taking MD1, MD2 and MS2

Cheung mentioned what I wanted to say. See. This is team event. We need to see the positive outcome which goes well for India and not about bashing by fans. You are talking about fans who are always on edge at any point of time. The same fans will praise you the strategy that was used to win the tie. How many times we spoke about this . We have seen all the wrong precedence when talking about badminton. Starting from selection of players to players playing both singles and doubles. We have come this far . We have players but why cant we use brain to select the players in correct way to win the tie instead of gambling.

I am also surprised Denmark did not select Ramus Gemke as 2nd single, he cud have beat Li Shi Feng.

All is well if it goes well. Indonesia did it but if India didn’t win using that strategy, that would have been catastrophic for BAI. I don’t think BAI would have used that strategy ever coz they don’t have the confidence that it’ll go through.

Well. Its over.

If Players feel bad enough not winning ThomasCup, then they will work hard by starting to win Individual Thailand Open Superseries next week!

You definitely need to be brave enough to make that sort of decision as a calculated risk.

Satwik Rankireddy comments going viral on Internet. For saying ' Nobody cares ' about their achievements at Hyderabad airport where no ones welcomes them and Chirag told Prannoy he wont let his kid play Badminton. Also told ' Why cant you beat France '. Its really getting heated at the moment. Despite the failure of this TC edition for Indonesia, actually I dont see comments going like 'Why cant you beat France' because at least we know their MS rankings are better.

To be fair, even Chinese wont know that China won ThomasCup. Its not Olympic MS, not LinDan. I asked my Chinese fren if these badminton players are famous, he said no. But I asked him, if Pan Zhanle is famous, he said yes. Many gold. My best friend until now back from Univ days.

Can't understand Satwik. When asked in one of his recent interviews, Satwik mentioned that he takes inspiration from Indian Army, where people give their lives, but are not recognized. Now he is crying vehemently that nobody recognizes them and all he needs is fan to come up to them and say well done. 🤔 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

Because so many people were there at Hyderabad Airport who were busy watching either IPL or politics on phone. The whole team was wearing Thomas Cup jersey but still no one recognised them

@Cheung .

I just checked Wiki (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1998_Thomas_Cup_knockout_stage#Semi-final_2 ) and a newspaper (https://eresources.nlb.gov.sg/newspapers/digitised/article/straitstimes19980525-1.2.56.2 ).
Hariyanto Arbi beat Sun Jun in the first set but lost the second and third set. He did not retired. And with respect to Sun Jun, I doubt an injured Hariyanto Arbi could beat Sun Jun in the first set.

So? That's their (meaning people's) choice. He is no one to advise them on what to support or whom to support. I don't like this stupid mentality of begging people for attention, just like how people beg on youtube to like/share/subscribe. To just win one good match against Chinese Tapei and get a bronze medal and ask people attention, don't you think it's tooo much? If people respond back by saying each tournament the government spends crores on a single player without any outcome whatsoever. Why should we care, when result is zero. Cricket has earned that respect. Learn to accept that and move on.

India won badminton World Cup in 2022 as well. SatChi had no role model in doubles before them unlike singles which has Sindhu, Saina, Gopi, Prakash, Kidambi and Kashyap. Yeah Indian cricket has earned that respect by winning World Cup played well only by SENA country. Without any outcome? I didn’t expected you will say that. India has won Thomas Cup, world championships gold, Indonesia open, China open ( Kidambi beat Lin Dan in the final), Korea Open and many more major tournaments in badminton

During Manu Bhaker- Vaibhav row, one cricket fan said I wish to see cricket die in India. His tweet made place at Firstpost video by Rupha Ramani. I mean come on, asking about cricketers to other sports athletes. Isn’t it too much of a sick mentality of Indian sports journalists?

You should have seen the amount of strapping he had on his leg. I was watching it live.

I remember he was already having problems with the thigh in an earlier match.

I did not watch that game but we should give Hariyanto Arbi a kudos because he played hard for his country. He lost that semifinal-stage match against China and final-stage match against Malaysia but he finished all the matches. He did not quit or retired. Even won one set. Again, he did not retired (at least according to Wikipedia).

Strategy-wise, this was a legal move and should not be frowned upon.
