    It's currently unclear.
The concern about Omicron was rising sharply around the Bali tournaments. During the Hylo open, the Minions were still mentioning about the upcoming BWC being their main target.

But I think the players already know when the WTF happened. The Minions stated about their extreme exhaustion and how's their whole body hurting but fight like heck and throwing bodies as if there's no important major tournament waiting just a week after. In the after final match interview, they were asked about the BWC. Marcus declined to answer and Kevin seemed to hesitated and just said, "Let's see."

Also Greysia's massive disappointment until she dropped her racket after the defeat and Apriyani's reaction of it. She's close to retirement and that was her last tournament of the year (possibly her last tournament in INA).

    No…,

But this seems a players/coaches decision (or one that has their health in mind), we fans should understand and applaud the decision.

Bali was great and we should have the WC there as well…

I hope INA team withdraws from the WC. It gives no prize money and the GV also didnt give any prize money for them winning TC ( its most likely because of this). So its useless tournament.

Indonesian sports ministry gives bonus for medal winner in WC but they don't give bonus for Thomas Cup(but of course there is a change just for this year)
So according to the ministry the useless tournament is Sudirman Cup, Thomas/Uber Cup. Even Asian Games team event is more useful

yeah thats pretty crazy but you know what. They wont pay the flight for the WC. There is money issues that will cause the withdrawal!

the players are upset so i dont think they are in the right mind to play WC. They also never said how much athlete will get for winning a medal in WC.

I am more than twice his age, hehehe. I think he is a promising player

Anyway, I think Thomas Cup is more important and it is only once in 2 year. WC is 3 times in 4 years and the next WC is less than 9 months away so if they decided not to go, I think it is alright, especially the cost is quite expensive to go just for 1 tournament.
BWF should have organised the WC around the next year All England, definitely participation is better

    Indonesia drop 'Worlds' bombshell
    By Fabian Peter - December 7, 2021 @ 7:20am
    https://www.nst.com.my/sports/badminton/2021/12/751951/indonesia-drop-worlds-bombshell

THE Indonesian badminton team, it is learnt, have shockingly withdrawn from the World Championships which start on Sunday in Huelva, Spain.

Although there is no official confirmation on the matter, it is understood that Indonesia's decision was due to concerns over the Covid variant, Omicron.

However, according to a source in Jakarta, it could also be budget related.

If Indonesia withdraw, the world meet will lose its sparkle with the absence of Indonesian stars: Olympic women's doubles champions, Greysia Polii-Apriyani Rahayu, world No 1 men's doubles, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, world No 2 Muhammad Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan, world No 8 Fajar Alfian-Muhammad Rian Ardianto, world No 6 mixed doubles, Praveen Jordan-Melati Daeva Oktavianti, men's singles world No 5 Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and world No 7 Jonatan Christie.

It is understood that Indonesia's decision was made following the conclusion of the three-tournament Indonesian leg of the World Tour on Sunday in Bali.

If this happens, this is not the first time that powerhouses Indonesia have pulled out of a major tournament at the eleventh hour.

Last year, Indonesia dropped a bombshell by withdrawing from the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals in Aarhus, Denmark due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, the Thomas and Uber Cups were eventually postponed to October this year, and Indonesia took part and won the Thomas Cup for the first time in 19 years.

With Omicron spreading fears worldwide, more countries could withdraw from the World Championships.

No doubt, the last quarter of 2021 BWF calendar is insane and inhumane, players should be selective to taking part tournament.

yeah thats how they viewed it, PBSI money is still GV money. Whats wrong with money oriented tours? If any its more competitive than WC & OG. if its so important , then there will have been prize money like GrandSlams. It has always been contentious

Of course its kinda late for INA to pull out, had the confirmatory news came last week, I believe more countries will pull out.

safe to say, the virus is already in Spain circulating. So if they pull out, they definitely think TC/DO FO and the belgium IC is more important than WC, but just that is simply not enough. What the players need these days is money. JC and Alfian getting the hot stick there. 19 years old title and getting none thats so shtty.

Maybe what happened in AllEngland , they worry might happen again so its better they pull the plugs. It will be interssting if theres calculation on how much PBSI spent for their contingent travels.

If the PBSI cancel participation at such short notice, it will not only harm its players, but also the whole badminton sport. Traveling from Indonesia to Spain is also no more unsafe than traveling from Europe to Bali in the last weeks . Only in the last two weeks have 1,300 senior badminton athletes attended the World Championships in Huelva. There has not been one positive corona test. Even if there is no prize money for the WC, the players still have the opportunity to generate money through advertising with their successes at the WC. BTW- Due to the rules, PBSI pays 100% of the hotel costs and probably also a large part of the flight costs already booked due to the late cancellation. So it's just a big stupidity of PBSI.
The only thing that would justify the cancellation of one or more tournaments in the last few months is the great burden on the top players. But then the association should have better managed the load on the players. Such a short-term cancellation by the entire team is unsporting towards the athletes, who are no longer allowed to move up into the field after the draw.

Herry IP just contacted journalist Ainur Rohman and he confirmed that INA national team are withdrawing from BWC. He said it’s a collective decision and the budget rumor is false. It’s because of Omicron.

    Accompanying article in Indonesian

    ---

TBH, Omicron concern as the reason feels... incomplete. Seems like there are other reasons because China, who are very strict about the pandemic let their players to compete.INA players like Dejan Ferdinansyah/Serena Kani from the Djarum Club are also still participating. Not to mention that just days ago, INA senior players were in Huelva. Officials like Mr Roedyanto and Jaohari Latif will travel there too.

I don’t think that the budget rumor is true either. They have big sponsors ever since the incident that caused Djarum to pull out of PBSI’s sponsorship. One of the sponsor, BNI (Indonesian bank) recently awarded the INA Thomas team big amount of money. PBSI managed to get huge sponsors to be involved in the Bali leg too, even PBSI held a charity donation for Bali Covid situation. They also didn’t sent athletes to international tourneys that much this year. Something didn't add up, I don’t get it.

PBSI head of public relation, Broto Happy, this evening said that he didn’t receive instruction from Rionny Mainaky yet, so he can’t say anything. Weirdly secretive if their reason was truly Omicron which is very easy to be published. Probably there’s something else, but I’m not sure if we will ever heard about it. Coach Ricky Pehong said that PBSI possibly will say something on Thursday. Wait and see, I guess.

Now for the players, I was disappointed for the Minions because they’re on the right track and moment (sans stamina and drained physical condition). They’re a type of players that need to keep competing to be sharp and reach an optimal form. If we compare their form after a long time without tournament months ago and their current form, the difference is very clear. Their momentum for the BWC is there.

Also sad for Greysia and The Daddies because of age, especially Greysia who is close to retirement.

    PS:
Many INA fans are pissed not only because of the withdrawal and its layers of problems but also about the roller coaster process of getting an actual info update. Insiders keep teasing, threw fuels for speculation and even made riddles and false hope pranks about the situation when fans were waiting for official confirmation. And instead of PBSI, a Malaysian outlet was announcing the news first with its own unclear speculation (cited about budget problem) based on vague sources. Weibo accounts spread it before PBSI as well.

isnt the hotel paid by the organizer? And the flight costs too.

the only logical reason is they booked for anything they booked before the confirmation of the omicron virus in Spain or the fear of some pairs achieving Gold and there will be no bonus to give and therfore the same problems with winning TC.

is there anyone in the team that tested positive ?

with LamsfussSeidel just recovered from Covid, AhsanHendra have to let go of AutoMedal.
