No , according to the invitation from BWF the costs for hotel and flights have to be paid by the nations.

The virus issue is the lamest excuse and just conveniently happened to crop up now.

I am guessing the main reasons are budget (if they denied it, most likely it is true). Right now, even if they have booked, most airline would be happy to rebook to another route later as not many customers yet. The accomodation most likely are not paid yet.
The other reasons of course is the performance of the players. Without some top players, only minions won 2 titles in the last few months while the rest empty handed so it would be better to set the next target next year

Absolutely correct. Until today 7th of December there are only 10 (!!) cases of Omnicrom in Spain , so there is no need to talk about this excuse. You are maybe right with the costs for airlines cause I don't know the booking and cancellation costs . But for sure I know that the accommodation has to be paid by 100 % at the 15 th of November.

this is what happens when bwf demands a system where the teams own the players. wc should never have been scheduled this year. Olympics and world championships are never in the same year.

also because there's no prize money the teams don't get their percentage to help cover expenses. that leaves no incentive for the teams to invest in the expenses.

nobody in the hospitality business is adhering to 'no refund' policies during the pandemic. it would be suicide for a business to do so.

How does Spain's quarantine works? Aren't the players and officials supposed to be in Spain already?

the world championships is owned by bwf, whereas a typical world tour tournament is actually owned by the host organizer. so of course bwf isn't going to pay for shiiit for the players. that would go against their standard of incompetence.

Realistically WD and MD is other countries benefiting from INA withdrawal ( I hope GohTan and ShettyRR can get medal)

Ginting and JC still recovering from injury they sustained in ThomasCup.

Also SouthKorea is at record highs cases, no withdrawal?

Nothing wrong, just about the prestige that being World Champion is one of most wanted titles for badminton players alongside Olympic Champion and I think this is undisputed fact.
If World Championships isn't important (at least in your perspective), why its provides same ranking point with the Olympic Games?

They should award more points to OG, around 15k for winner

Anyone know how many withdrawals trigger a redraw? Aside from whole INA team withdrawing, Okuhara isn’t participating too & we haven’t heard final word from Marin who may end up withdrawing anyway. Draw may be too lopsided if they don’t redo it.

Finally, an official statement. Citing Omicron and athletes’ safety as the reason, the PBSI chairman decided after PBSI personnel, coaches and Rionny are suggesting the withdrawal. After they discussed it with the players, they reached an agreement.

(That tweet is the beginning of a thread)

Yeah just let some other guys win it.

you can say if OG is important, JiXinPeng would still be household names. So yeah let some other guys win it.

If the WC and WTF and IO which to me is the same, just why bother to spend a lot on hosting 3 weeks of tournaments. Its better that they didnt host and didnt go to WC altogether but certainly they think the prize money will help the players.

In the end now that is confirmed that INA will skip, there is no point talking about it anymore.

I would say the main reason PBSI didnt allow them to go to WC is the disappreciation of winning ThomasCup shown from the GV. In that sense, ThomasCup is not important too.
