CCC Trial League Competition - Fri 23 March

I am sure you are not making CCC into such priviledge club right?

Very scary thought, one that would give Chris bad dream.

Anyway, thanks Chris for providing a clearer definition of what CCC club is. For now, I think I am just interested to participate in CCC's badminton social night, nothing else.

Bad, thank you for saying how you think. We need more people to say what they want (be it on the forum, or supper) otherwise we never know what they want.

And no, from the look of things, the one who suggest the particular thing/activity might not end up to be in organizing it. So that should be deter anyone suggesting anything.

Hi yschin,

You are very modest...based on our CCC records, your handicaps is at -4, last played on Friday 8-Dec-2006.

Good Night... chris@ccc

Of the 955 views on this thread todate, only me and Capt talked about the old issue of 'weak & strong'. Badfever only chipped in on being serious about competition. That goes to show vast majority don't give a sh.. about that anymore.

Can we conclude this topic by saying that most would agree with the quote from Badfever "just interested to participate in CCC's badminton social night, nothing else. I am very happy with DP's excellent social sticky board system, everyone get to choose or be chosen. I almost forgot, social badminton night plus social badminton supper".

Your anniversary is really something to celebrate about then. If at all possible, include 2 seats for me.... April?

I am going nut without badminton for too long.

Cheers

Yschin:

Funny you have to use s word, i use it the other time without realising that.

Seriously, stating the obvious is not gonna help. We better off thinking how to encourage people to talk more about matters in CCC.

And u know what, it is possible for people who are new to the club to assume Chris is the guy running things.

So we just have wait+see.

OK la...

Anyway, good luck to all participants. Try to enjoy the comp and, Fuji, don't break your back again. :D

Chat to you soon.

Australia never misses a chance to participate in Badminton in the Olympics

BadFever said:
Sorry to say that I disagree on the above, Chris. I believe a lot of people out there are happy to spend $10000 or more just to participate in Olympic Games once in their lifetime but they can't. You have to compete in major tournaments/competitions to gain points to participate in Olympic. Even if you have enough money to join all Open Competitions around the world, that's still not good enough. You have to win enough matches to gain points for Olympics.
Hi BadFever,

What you have quoted is not quite true... :):):)

Take Australia for example;

Australia has never any chance of winning a medal of any colour in the history of the Olympic Games. Yet Australia never misses a chance to participate in Badminton in the Olympics.

BadFever said:

Yes, I have been thinking about this... :):):)

As the attendances of our players@CCC increases, CCC will need to become a privileged club, and here is the reason;
For a particular night/session, as you would have heard me saying again and again, when our attendace reaches 32, we will have to become exclusive and privileged.

Don't know if you have read yschin's post, #82, saying that 'That goes to show vast majority don't give a sh.. '.

Of course, for those who behave like what yschin has described will be the first to be asked to leave (when our attendance reaches 32).:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Don't be surprised that this could happen sooner than later. :):):)

I still remember when you suggested to me 'When we get to be overcrowded, only then we should start thinking of what to do'.

Well, I have thought about it and I thought that I should have a tentative plan... and now that you have brought up this subject matter, so here is IT: Players@CCC who just come to play and who has no feeling of concern for CCC will be the first to be asked to leave.

Just last night, 2 members informed us that because they will be likely to come less regularly, they have opted not to become members@ccc but just want to become casual visitors.

And this saddened me... because they think that CCC will always be there for them when they wish to attend, but they did not think that CCC requires their participation if CCC is to continue to operate/exist.

Tennis Elbow

BadFever said:
No Chris, I got tennis elbow when I was using my CAB20 after I put on a really thick grip. My condition got worse during our friendly with JT Ultra. I was still using CAB20 then. After switching to a smaller grip racket, I kinda recovered but not fully. Every now and then, I am getting this pinching feel on my elbow, no pain but uncomfortable. So, I thought since I am taking a break on Wednesday (not because of tennis elbow, but I am going to watch World Championship diving in MSAC, yeah, I get to see babes in swimsuit committing suicide 10m jump :D ), I might as well skip Friday and, hopefully, a 10 days break can take away the pinching feel completely.

My AT900Ts is giving me plenty of power. Don't worry, they are still my main rackets until Yonex comes out with a "Whiter" racket than AT900T. :p :)

Hi Badfever,

You might want to try using this tennis elbow absorber to prevent the inujury from happening again or get worst. I've seen quite a few badminton players using them and got myself one from a website from USA after getting some information from the users. In AU they are selling for AUD75 while in USA is only USD20/-

The details of the strap is here http://www.tennis-elbow.com/

If you want to buy from an AU site her is the site http://www.tennisranch.com.au/scripts/Info.exe?stkCode=606D106

If you want to save some money including postage is about AUD45/-

Thanks andrewghw, going to give my elbow a try this Wednesday. I will stay away from larger grip from now on. :)

Hey HandsFull, welcome to CCC/BC forum. Who do you normally partner on Friday? (trying to see if I know you)

Results

And so endeth the inaugural festival of the jousting of the colours of the autumnul equinox.

I must say I enjoyed the night, it added a little spice to the games. Thank-you to those who participated and I hope that you'll be around for the next night which will be scheduled mid April.

The results for the night are summarised in the table below. Well done to the Purple team for knocking over the orange team by one point (even with our secret Chiranti-M mystery player substition suggested by BF).

The scores are listed as pairs in the form x + y. x represents the number of games won and y the number of bonus points (refer to first post in this thread).

DoublesPlease, u know the handicapp we use to start the league.

Would the handicapp be affected by the league at all?

Hey HK,

We can use the information to seed the next trial games as Yschin pointed out in an earlier post. I have no intention of doing anything else with the individual results.

Is the seeding going to be an advantage to anyone? Would love to delve into this more.

Although, i must say mini-league is a good way to get regular people though.

For those too hyped up about competition , there are competitions every other week around Melb.

Let me take this opportunity to resume my status of the master of "taking things literally". There are comp every other week, but are they the one with people playing with the right grade?

From experience, I don't even think this is debatable.

CCC Handicapped Games are for players of all skill levels

Hi yschin,

These quotes are taken from your post, POST#64, from this thread.

And it has taken me a few days to think about it before I respond (Not wanting to respond recklessly).

yschin said:
It is a fact that in most other clubs , stronger players tend to play among themselves and the weaker or begineers confine to a court all by themselves.

I would like to explain...

One of the reasons why CCC Badminton was founded is because I believe it's time for Melbourne to have a 'Community/Social Badminton Club'.

Melbourne has too many 'Segregation Badminton Clubs', and I find that 'Segregation Badminton Clubs' are just NOT FRIENDLY ENOUGH.

And, as you have put it, in 'Segregation Badminton Clubs' "stronger players tend to play among themselves" and "weaker or beginners confine to a court all by themselves".

As you know, I am well known in Badminton in Melbourne because I visit many Badminton Clubs. In fact I have been members(not just casual visitors) of many of them. And I am still currently members of many clubs, even though I find that I frequent them seldom nowadays since I started CCC Badminton. I still like to be treated as part of their families and therefore I decide to continue to pay for my memberships.

Fortunately I am a skilled player. And they treat me with great respect and with tremendous friendliness.

But unfortunately, they are 'Segregation Badminton Clubs'.

So what's wrong with that, you may ask...

Well, the answer/reason is I find problem/discrimination against my lower skilled friends, who are non-members of the clubs concerned, but they want to come play with me just to pass time.

And you will be quite shocked to hear that I have been told "How can you bring this friend of yours when he/she is of such low skilled level of play?".

I find this quite upsetting.:mad::mad:

Yes, you may say that those clubs have the right to choose whoever they like (based on skills) but I find it detrimental to the promotion of Badminton, a sport I dearly wish to promote.

yschin said:
Trying to accommodate everyone is always not easy.

I am sure Chris would like to give this a try to add some varieties to the current system. The current system works well but still stronger pair will only occasionally pick a weaker pair and I think to play ‘mixed’ against ‘mixed’ can be more challenging than against a pair that is so much different in standards than your pairing. Even handicaps doesn't make any different but cut short the playing time.

(‘mixed’ – weak + strong)

I devised our CCC Handicapped Games so that everyone@CCC can play against each other, regardless of their skill levels.

And I have heard from our stronger players@CCC that it is not easy to win a game against weaker players if the weaker players have 16 points start. And this I like... because it now offers a challenge to our stronger players@ccc.

It's like you and me, partnering in Doubles, asking Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, if they can beat us if they give us 16 points start.

[FONT=Bitstream Vera Sans, sans-serif]However, my suggestion that a player of a particular skill should form a Doubles Partnership with another player of about the same skill is because I think that it is very unfair when opponents keeping hitting shots to the weaker player and leave the stronger player out of the game.

The stronger player of the Partnership just doesn't enjoy it.
