CCC Trial League Competition - Fri 23 March

Trial games

Chris,

Thks for the explanation. I don’t think anyone have any doubts or reservations about the handicapped system . I support your vision for the club.

What is to be written might sound contradictory to my earlier posts but I would say some are written without much serious thoughts (the grammatical errors is enough proof).

My posts were made with reference to the trial games and not to the club in general.. When these are organized occasionally , I thought it might be good to have some competitive spirit in it. Otherwise it would just be like any other social night if I may put it that way.

For example, if 3 or 2 high handicappers were to be drawn into a team playing against 3 low handicappers in another team. The handicaps will still be a challenge in this case as you have mentioned. But wouldn’t the weaker pair be subjected to greater amount of attack in order to win the game when it comes to ‘competition’. On the other hand , if a mixed pair against another mixed pair , the stronger player can vary the game , for eg. keeping shots low or positioning shuttles etc to prevent your weaker player being targeted all the times. Perhaps only if you are serious would you start thinking about your partner in court otherwise you would casually just want to enjoy your hit.

I might be too theoretical and wrong and the discussion could be endless depending on how positively or negatively you look at it.

Maybe DP read what I tried to say ( or really?) , ‘seeding’ but I try to avoid using it. For those who see post by ‘yschin’ ahh! not again , with negative mindsets even before reading … will think ..how about points ranking like IBF or what is the price money ?… yschin?? If you are positive about it then , eh why not? starting to think seriously about it (like you, Chris ) and conclude that it is a no go ‘cos of this n that.

It is good to see your membership steadily increasing and hopefully still a place for me .. how about honorary member … just kidding again.

We are OFF Topic Everywhere !!!

Guys,

may I suggest we try to stay On Topic of every Threads. Since this is about the Trial League , can someone create another thread maybe call "CCC Club Improvement & Suggestion" or something and continue with the discussion there. Otherwise, what's the reason of having so many threads.

Hi BadFever,

You are correct... :):):)

That is why I copy and paste it to our CCC threads of;

(1) CCC@Waverley: Address, Policy, etc... located at: http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40653
and,
(2) CCC Badminton: General Forum located at: http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38230

This thread is only for our 1st CCC Trial League Competition - Fri 23 March.

And it will be buried and forgotten... when DoublesPlease starts his new thread:
2nd CCC Trial League Games - Fri 13-April-2007. ;););)

Therefore, I should think we could continue with this topic in our Policy and/or General Forum threads.

Actually, I believe that our General Forum should be the main thread for small discussions and when they get bigger... then may they be transferred to their OWN THREADS.

Friday night thread which gets most of our players/members reading, is one that I also post new matters/topics to attract their attentions.

Cheers... chris@ccc

Badfever:

Spot on. Enough said.

It remind me at supper time of many times that Chris has told me to stay on topic. Sorry ....

And I have heard from our stronger players@CCC that it is not easy to win a game against weaker players if the weaker players have 16 points start. And this I like... because it now offers a challenge to our stronger players@ccc.

Funny from what i heard some people who have 12 points start would say when they look at the handicapp, "there's no way i am gonna win ... even with 12 points start"

From experience, i actually think with 12 points it's more pressure for stronger team to deliver. I think a lot of people are getting sick of me saying (9, 8, 7 points till lift off), and then the game is finished.

Yschin:

When i have time with a coffee and finish reading your post (i mean really give it a good read), i will type my next episode of the epic.

Still, thanks for the opinion though. Yschin, there are people who talk a lot but don't type a lot (unlike who always talk a lot+type a lot), so to say they don't care is not fair.

BadFever, does it mean that i am not allowed to chip in to yschin till the "improvement thread" is constructed? Just kidding mate. You know i cannot keep my mouth/fingers shut.

With all due respect , it is not meant to set a record for the longest rally of the game.

Simply trying to put forward the idea of 2 : 1 ratio of high to low h’cap in a team and the outer way round on some other day and trying to explain the rational for it . At times being defensive of my idea by trying to bring in some questionable or debatable statistics. That’s all man !

I have on many occasions being left standing in the middle of a court waiting for players to join in , only to realise that nobody is interested because my standard is not that attractive to them. I must say that did not happen to me or anybody else for that matter in CCC. Cheers to that.

Should read as "bring in 'statistics' which became so debatable" . Have to be careful with words or .... risk being hammered by Capt.

segregation clubs not only in Melbourne!!!!

chris@ccc said:
One of the reasons why CCC Badminton was founded is because I believe it's time for Melbourne to have a 'Community/Social Badminton Club'.

Melbourne has too many 'Segregation Badminton Clubs', and I find that 'Segregation Badminton Clubs' are just NOT FRIENDLY ENOUGH.

And, as you have put it, in 'Segregation Badminton Clubs' "stronger players tend to play among themselves" and "weaker or beginners confine to a court all by themselves".

Cheers... chris@ccc
Good posting chris@ccc. But I must say could substitute 'Melbourne' to also outside of Melbourne > Vic > Australia.... Many clubs contain groups, that if you don't have a contact or the skill its near impossible to join in.
Its a good thing having a regular system@ccc enables anyone from all walks of life to come along and enjoy the play & social-ness, then by adding extra activities can take part in competitive play like the trial comp :) :)

PS: I like yschin's idea of combining 'seeding' with the trial system format - could be on to something there!
