Have you played there? Is it really that bad? How much does it affect the game?I mean, weather in Mtl has already been quite hot and humid these days.

*cough cough* *chokes* Erm... Yeah, uh... ^^"

Not many people at the Hua Xia club seem to be aware of this tournament, and there are quite a few women players who play on Saturdays.

And lastly, I'm sure you'll get your 25 players in the tournament. After all, there are already 20 confirmed registrations.

I went to Hua Xia club with Silentlight last week, and did some promotion, but it's hard as there are a lot of people there and we're not exactly regulars who everyone is friendly with... we did leave pamphlets for the tourney, and we did talk to whoever we played with, but we didn't feel it was appropriate to really push to hard, as it wasn't our club.

The organizers of the club are aware of our tournament, and I'm a bit upset at a recent turn of events... the Hua Xia club annoucned just a few days ago that they're going to host a in-club tournament of their own (for Hua Xia members only) but they announced to take place on 3 days, one of which is the same date as our tournament.:(

I don't know if it's just coincidence or not, but the overal effect is that it entices Hua Xia players to not join the RsM tournament, and just play at their own local tournament instead....

RsM Amateur Open is still three weekends away, plenty of time for people to register, so I'm not totally worried, though I'm a bit upset that Hua Xia decided to host an in-house tournament on the same date as us.

It's not that bad though, I mean, the Hua Xia tournament is for members only, so we've still got the rest of montreal to work with... we've still got Ahuntsic, the Chinatown YMCA, Olympic stadium and Claude Robiliard to promote at though, so hopefully we'll get more numbers from there. we'd really appreciate if everyone could tell (if not coerce:D) all their badminton friends to join as well-- more participants makes for more varied matches, and a bigger prize budget.

I have found a few hostels around Montreal for under $40 per night, but depending on what's happening on Sunday, I might just head back on Sat. nite.

Most clubs have their whole year's tourneys and events schduled in the beginning of the year. Then again, most clubs, especially for profit ones, usually don't want their members to know there are other clubs out there.

You might make the event more interesting if you put in the fact that you have people coming in from the US, make it more like an international event. :)

Good job. Usually, most ppl tend to register at the last minute before the dead line, as it's hard to plan like 3-4 weeks in advance. I am sure u will have enough participants to get the tourny going.

It's normal to see few female participants. That only means they will have a smaller draw, but more chance for prize. ;)

Coincidence? I think not, I vividly remember (from last week) an important person, if not the organizer himself, of Hua Xia say that he'll try to come to our competition. Now why would someone say that if they knew that they were having a tournament of their own on the same date?

But hey, just because we're having a tournament doesn't mean others can't organize their own tournament on the same day even if it was inspired by our own which we have no proof of whatsoever.

Be it is or not, let's just take care of our own business. I am sure u will have enough participants with all the hard work u and other already given in. Look at the positive side, not too many members of that club showed interests any way, so, u did not really lose that much by this conflict.

Hmm... Ymca? We need a member to get in though...

Oh! So when you're talking about "dim sum" it's more like "drinking tea"? Jing Hua is really so so, but since it's in Brossard, it offers many parking spaces. If you also plan some sightseeing, then it's perhaps more convenient in Chinatown? Then again, the parking issue comes back.

Please, there are a more than one person in charge of the club. There could have been some misunderstanding or lack of communication. It can happen to every one, right? I can assure you they didn't clash the tournament date with RsM on purpose. They need many sessions to complete the in club tournament as they only plan to devote 2 hrs per session weekly for the competition.

Both Jinryu and I are YMCA members so that shouldn't be a problem, but it'll be absolutely necessary to reserve courts, I've been a regular at the Chinatown Y for close to 2 years now and I know the place is packed during summer (people who usually play at Ahuntsic and other schools during the school year get the YMCA summer membership). I know enough YMCA members to get court reservations for a few hours in a row but I can't guarantee it, it gets pretty crazy, those who've tried to reserve courts before will know what I'm talking about.

If reserve the court is too much of a problem, then it's fine with me. We can do a gathering instead on fri night, and maybe I can just bounce the plastic shuttles in the parking lot, to get some "feeling". ;)

For food on sunday: Chinatown sounds good, especially since I don't have a car, and neither does Silentlight or friendlies...? Many others i'm guessing too, chinatown is just metro acesssible.

For friday night: I think YMCA is the 'easiest', it's the cheapest way for us to reserve courts for most of us. Silentlight and I will try and reserve and try to get our YMCA friends to reserve as well.

Sounds great! Maybe let's do a head count on this, who will participate the "friday night practice session" in YMCA (even I have no idea about where it is... china town???)

Of course, I will be there, if ppl go with me and make sure I don't get lost on the way. :D What's the time schedule??? :p

Thanks LOADS!!! Will it be possible for you two to play as well? You know, to "de-stress" before the tournament? :D

Yeah it's in Chinatown... (hint: think of food!! :p) Don't worry! We'll escort you EVERY WHERE and you'll have so much of us that you wouldn't even want to eat after!

If we're playing on Friday night for sure, then I will definitely need to drive in on Friday. Let me know if its a definite go, so I can make arrangements for the overnight stay. And I don't mind driving around town, as long as I have a navigator who knows the way around.

The Friday Night session sounds like a definate go, and a head count also sounds like a good idea just to ensure that we don't have way too many people for the amount of reserved courts. That friday is August 5th, 2005.

So, I'm thinking, the current list in alphabetical order:
    Devilicious
    Frendies
    Jinryu
    Lazy Buddy
    Outlah
    Silentlight
    Volts

Ummm... just keep in mind that unless you're under 18, the guest pass for YMCA may be quite expensive-- i don't remember the exact price unfortunately. If you're under 18 it's definately affordable. Outlah, your partners are being arranged for you so I will try and see if I can get them to come on that night as well so you can get some practice in with them as well.
