Duck or Goose Feather Shuttles

I have surfed internet and found out the type sof feather used for making the shuttlecock as follows:

Aeroplane G2130 :goose
Aeroplane G1130SS :goose
Aeroplane G1130 :goose
Gosen White S-250 :goose
HL Champion Hi Altitude :goose
OCBC Tournament Grade :goose
Yonex Aerosensa 50 :goose
Yonex Aerosensa 30 :goose
Gosen Club S-260 :duck
OCBC Special Grade :duck
Yonex Aerosensa 20 :duck
Yonex Aerosensa 10 :duck

Whenever I come across any new brand of shuttles, I always take the trouble to read the description on the tube to see whether there is anything that says "goosefeather shuttlcocks" or similar.

Welcome any comment on the use of duckfeather or goosefeather shuttle in badminton playing.

I was thinking maybe there is something better than goose??
Let see....what birds fly well?
Eagle? Falcon? :D:D

It would be really cool if they could use Eagle's feather to make shuttles.....I wonder what's the performance it would be :)
(Forget about the price, everything is expensive anyway:p)
 
Duck feather is mechanically weaker than goose feather. I recently played interchangeably with AS-10 (duck) and AS-30 (goose), and the difference in durability is quite pronounced.

Also, I noticed that for the Yonex duck feather shuttles, the half of each feather that faces inwards towards the central axis of the shuttle is cut. I don't think I have seen any goose feather shuttles with such a modification.
 
I play regulary with a group on Wednesday night. We used PROACE Aero-Tech 75 Speed 76. Lately we have new member joining my group, he is very resourceful in getting new brand of shuttles. We have been tryiong PROTECH standard tech 2005 speed 77, PROTECH 618 New Edition Speed 77, RSL Silver Feather Speed 77 Sea Lion C1101 Speed 77, etc.

However there is one player who insisted that PROACE Aero-Tech 75 is still the best. One night my organiser took the trouble to replace the stickers of PROACE Aero-Tech 75 shuttles (all 12 of them) and put them into the tube of PROTECH 618 New Edition . That night, he kept on complaining that the " PROTECH 618 New Edition " were not durable, not good in flight, etc.

The morale of the story is that players will complain about using new brand of shuttles. :p :p

from this seller http://www.badmintonalley.com/shuttlecocks_all.php it says AS20 is goose. Where did u got the info on AS20?
 
Hi guys

Just wondering, where do they get so many feathers from? Ya, I know from goose and duck; but how are they processed? Pluck from life or dead birds destined for the pot?:D

i had asked the various shop owners and assistants before and they said that those Yonex Aerosena (1-digit) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 are all duck feathers, and those with double digit are goose feathers.

instead of comparing which kind of feathers is more durable, it makes more sense to compare the different grade of quality that each kind of feathers has.

from what i know, Aerosena 4 and 5 are high-grade duck feathers, and Aerosena 30 - 50 are high-grade goose feathers. and their pricing is almost the same, with the goose ones being more expensive from a few cents to a dollar or two.

was discussing about feather type for Yonex shuttles in another thread, and this should be the right thread for the info.

here is what I found in the Yonex's official web site:

- ALL AS-10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 are goose feather and solid cork.

- other ones are duck feather and composite cork, except AS9 in Chinese market has goose feather.

- and, different market, Yonex has different models or names.

Just a thought after Thanksgiving, maybe next time there will be turkey feather shuttles!
