Does anyone know a way of tying a finishing knot with no anchor string ? (I can't go through a hole where there's already a string, but it doesn't need to look pretty, it just needs to hold tension in)

As in you can't find a shared hole to thread through? Photos might help here.

I'd like to make a 4x4 stringbed with tennis strings but they're too big to make shared holes, so i'm looking for a trick move :)

you mean you have an empty grommet? that sounds strangely wrong. or are you tying the string to something else?

If I understand correctly what you're doing, you probably need to make an massive knot that stop it going through the shared hole. Might be possible if you're using tennis strings. Not sure what knots/technique you can do to ensure it's remains tight.

Yeah tbh I would've just gone through another empty shared hole (they all look like shared holes) and then just tie it to the next available string.

Why not start with a starting clampon the outside, pull your mains/crosses, tie, then pull first main with starting clamp then tie on main/cross 2?

Sorry I was thinking badminton string not tennis string, what gauge did you use? 1.15?

I think it was 1.25 gauge, my local store didn't have many options.
