Mathematically, with a game in hand plus Man Utd still to travel to Emirates (assuming that they will defeat Man Utd at home), Arsenal is still 1 point short. If Arsenal can pull it off and Man Utd tumble in one of the matches, that will be biggest victory for Arsenal even better than the invincible era.
It's not about hoping for Man U to lose or failing to win. It's called fans rooting for their respective teams. Man U is on top, naturally, every other team is aiming for the same. That is just healthy competition, otherwise, just give the trophy each year to a certain team. Besides, there are still a number of matches to play, a healthy lead doesn't mean it is insurmountable.

Nowadays I seldom watch matches involving Man Utd, If I do, it usually end up like this : Man Utd home matches : If they scored first, I stop watching. Why? 'Cos the other team won't draw or win. Man Utd away matches : If they scored first, I may continue to watch. If they score another, I stop watching, 'cos they will win. Man Utd away matches : If they concede first, I may continue to watch but if they equalize and take the lead, I will stop watching. The best example was the last match. Why with a two goal lead, West Ham just defended and at the end, suffered defeat and the same with most teams. FYI, I am not a Man Utd supporter.

Looking at the League table now, I find it interesting to find the points tally to be much more distributed than the previous seasons. Normally 40 points is the rule of thumb for the total required to be safe from relegation but as of today with six matches to go only Bolton and above had gotten past that number, with only Aston Villa (14) upwards are capable of doing it next game. Still, at the bottom of the table is Wigan with 31, even if they win another 3 more times it would still won't guarantee their survival. Either the league has gone stronger - bigger pool of top sixes, and improved playing capabilities of those below - or the top has gotten weaker that they are easier to defeat. *Customary wink emot that doesn't mean a thing*
