    I know this may sound silly, but can someone please tell me what does it mean by retire?

    Does that mean the player got injured and had to leave or he just felt he is totally not competitive enough to go on, so just throw off a white flag?

    u cant retire if even u lost 1st set 21-0...i think injury is the main reason...;)
