    Hi all,

I am also a great fan of Gao Ling . I have checked the BWF database regarding Gao Ling's Individual Open Tournament medal records from 1999 to 2007 and are as follows:

    Mixed Doubles: 21 gold + 11 Silver
    Women Doubles: 18 Gold + 11 Silver
    Open tournaments (2 categories)= 39 gold + 22 Silver

    adding:
    Olympic (2 categories): 2 Gold + 1 Silver + 1 Bronze
    World Champ
    (2 categories): 4 Gold + 4 Silver
    Asian Games
    (2 categories): 2 Gold + 1 Silver

    adding:
    Team (Sudirman Cup):
    3 Gold + 1 Silver
    Team (Uber Cup): 4 Gold
    Team (Asian games):
    2 Gold

    Overall : 96 medals :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
    (56 Gold + 39 Silver + 1 Bronze)

What an amazing achievment !!! remember this is only the medal count as of September 2007...........more are coming!!!

{{ Gao Ling forever }}.... we salute you !!!!:):):):):):)

According to badzine, the latest Olympics Dummies Entry list indicates Gao Ling & Huang Sui are currently rank out of top 4.
It meant they will not be sent to Olympics based on merits from the latest ranking. A country only allowed to sent 3 pairs/unit if all of their players rank inside top 4 bracket..
Hopes they can make it eventually.

we can't compare rudy with gaoling...

in rudy era, there are no Olympic, WC, open tournaments so he can't win those...

if you want compare them.. use a comparasion of tournaments that both compete equally

It's normal as the new generation slowly taking over, especially this is CHN national team, which is known for the tough "internal competition". It's true that GL/HS and ZJW/YW slowly losing some grips, as the young guns jumping out more and more often. However, from the overal pic, besides their own teammates, no others can provide a consistant threat to them yet.

The smiling assassin lives up to her name .....

But I hope she doesn't go the way of Zhang Ning. Zhang Ning stayed too long, couldn't maintain her standard of play.

Let us remember Gao Ling as forever a winner ........

Curiously enough, Gao Ling's (and Zhang Ning's) long run of success also shows how weak the women's side of badminton still is

More of dependence:(, rather than weakness. Their achievements could have created a view within the rest of the squad that they don't need to push themselves to achieve, 'cos Gao Ling and Zhang Ning will bail them out. We can say similarly with MS squad dependence on LD and MD dependence on Fu/Cai.

she's a winner no doubt...and if she keeps playing until she's ZN's age, she's gonna racket up quite a collection of medals and achievements...even if the women's side of badminton is weak (disputable), it's still competitive and great achievements nonetheless :p
