Attendance: CATS=10(Regulars=8, Casuals/Drop-Ins=2), WED SOCIAL=4.

CATS
Welcoming first time to CATS @Glen Waverley: Andrei-S.
Lesson is Chapter 4: OH Dropshot(reply with Bounce) and Singles High Services.
Drill Partners: Carole & Jess, Wesley & aannn, Kim & helmut, Gautam & hkhung, & TzeKin & Andrei-S.

Trainees told to jot down notes on what was instructed/demonstrated in the lesson/chapter. This will help trainees to mentally revise(at home) the material taught. The jotted notes will become invaluable information in months/years to come.
To help you to remember, here are some key points;

Badminton Footwork Exercise (BEXERCISE)
Eyes: Watching the flight of an imaginary shuttle during BEXERCISE
Backhand/Forehand Grip: Thumb/Index Finger for control
Backhand Bounce: Handle resting on thumb and elbow pointing to the wall
Forehand Bounce: Handle resting on index finger and elbow pointing to the floor
Underarm Clear: Have a long follow-through, right up to 12 o'clock
BEXERCISE can be performed at home without a badminton court and without a racket

Dropshot
Stance: Bended knees, non-racket foot in front of racket foot
Elbow: Slightly bend for better control
On hitting: Counted as 1 footwork as you transfer your weight from racket foot to non-racket foot

Slow Dropshot(with no follow-through)
Point of impact for Slow Dropshot: At 11 o'clock
Point of impact for Slow Dropshot: Racket face “shining” horizontally
Shuttle flight for Slow Dropshot: Flies flat to a point above your Service Line
Shuttle flight for Slow Dropshot: Dies down from a point above your Service Line
Shuttle flight for Slow Dropshot: Falls onto the net tape
Slicing action: NO

Fast Dropshot = Slow Smash

Fast Dropshot(with follow-through)
Point of impact for Fast Dropshot: At 10:30 o'clock
Point of impact for Fast Dropshot: Racket face “shining” at the “GAP”
Shuttle flight for Fast Dropshot: Flies through the “GAP”
Shuttle flight for Fast Dropshot: Falls onto opponent's Service Line
Slicing action: YES

Singles High Service = Underarm Clear

Singles High Service
Holding the shuttle: At eye-level
Dropping the shuttle: Forward, further in front of you
Index Finger for control: Forehand Grip, using index finger for lifting
Direction of the movement of racket: Singles High Service is an Underarm Clear
Have a long follow-through, right up to 12 o'clock
Wrist Adjustment: So that “Racket Head Tube” is formed/directed towards where you want the shuttle to go
Point of impact: Below waist
Point of impact: Highest Point of Racket Head must be below the Lowest Point of your fingers

Parents of trainees are asked to print out our CATS 20-Chapter Program for their children. For those without printers, tell me and I will get a printout for you.

WED SOCIAL
Only 4 Social Games players last night, playing on one court for the full 2.5 hours.

Cheers...chris@ccc

Yeah....2.5 hours of non-stop badminton, I am having sore legs and arms !!! :o Next time when we have 4 or less social players, I am going to propose to just join in your CATS session. ;)

CATS is for practising, not playing

Hi BadFever,

Now that you have been back to playing Badminton for 4 months, you should be able to last at least 2.5 hours or more.

Of course, you are welcomed to CATS. But it will be no more playing but practicing.

Cheers... chris@ccc

CATS is for practising, not playing ...

... it's supposedly about coaching, not couching (as I was told) ...

Yes helmut, it's coaching, not couching

Hi helmut,

Yes it is coaching, not couching:).

This Wednesday, 23-Aug-2006, we are doing Chapter 5: Smash - (reply with Block).

Cheers... chris@ccc

Yeah....2.5 hours of non-stop badminton, I am having sore legs and arms !!!

To BadFever:

Chris would be talking for half an hour before any playing. So technically, it's only 2 hours. If you can play single for a long time on wednesday nite, you should be fine, mate.

Anyway, join us sometime and see how you go!

... it's supposedly about coaching, not couching (as I was told) ...

To helmut:

Hopefully, "coaching" is not confused with "crouching" as in the famous chinese movie - crouching tiger, hidden dragon.

LilyC just asked me why there is "no preview/to be expected message for CATS, Wednesday 23-Aug-2006".

And this is my reply;

“Hi LilyC,

You can sure see the stress I am experiencing at the moment.

Yes, it is because I am not only, having many new enquiries about CATS Wednesday and CCC Friday, but I am also having many discussions for arranging our Friendly Match (for our higher skill level for 4-Sep-2006).

But the worst stress is that I am having computer problems. I have been going to Helmut's house for him to fix my computer lately.

And our session, CCC Sunday @MSAC will be cancelled this Sunday, 27-Aug-2006, although we were trying, unsuccessfully, to book Monash Uni(Caulfield Campus) for that day.

Marissa, Jill and Tim have booked me for coaching on that day, instead.

Anyway, when things settle down, I will continue to update you guys about our CATS & CCC activities.

Cheers... chris@ccc

Chris, what problem are you having with your computer. Maybe I can help.

Hey bad Fever, I think I'm hooked to your new racket the ashaway nano kevlar. I've been looking around on the web but not a single info on it.

Frustrating!!

Cheers!

Hi BadFever,

Thank you for your offer to help

If you are doing Linux too, perhaps, Helmut, you and I can talk about it at our CCC Friday Social Badminton tomorrow night, 25-Aug-2006.

At the moment, Helmut is the only one I know who can do Linux.

Cheers... chris@ccc

Sorry Chris, I don't do Linux. If it's hardware related, then I might be able to help.

Andrewghw, I still prefer my new Proace Platinum 110. Wide body racket suite my playing style better. So, I will be using the Proace for the time being. I can lend you the nano kevlar to play. If you like the nano kevlar very much and would like to own one, I am happy to sell it to you.

Hey! thanks Bad fever. What is your price for the racket? Good to have one of those and can use to it. I'm still use to my realy old Yonex Aerotus but its time for me to try and switch. What I like about your racket is the reflex is very good and surely a very fast racket.

Hi HKhung,

My racquet is 14yrs old. Had it since 1992. But only played on and off thats why is still with me. known to be a fragile racquet and breaks easily. But is a very good racquet. It has a small carck already and could give way anytime thats why I bought the racquet from Badfever and getting use to the new racquet before the Aerotus break.

Cheers!
