    Attention Hong Kong BF members

Don't we have any BF member in Hong Kong that can summarize the score at the end of the days on this forum? May be Kwun should use his influence :)

    Yeah, that too !!

Hafiz has gone Dutch plus licking a silver medal in Dannish pastry, its more than enough for a month's work and not bad by any player's standard.

For any world class player, its hard to peak for a lengthy time, take Taufik as an example, unbeatable at Olympics and at the Worlds, but a month later got a duck 15-6, 15-0 from LCW.

Though Taufik is heavily favoured this time again but i doubt he will win. I stick my neck out, I don't think the winner of 2005 HK open is going to be Taufik or Lin Dan.

Actually I don't think he really cared for the Malaysian Open after winning the 2005 Singapore just a week or two earlier. Word has it that he got drunk the night before the match which may be the reason why he performed poorly and was shut out in the second set. Even IF he lost, I think the score would have been more reasonable if he didn't get drunk the night before.

As for LCW's match against him in the 2005 World Championships, I don't know what happened in the first set for Lee Choong Wei. He did so well against Bao Chunlai the day before but lost badly in the first set to Taufik!

Results for Chinese Players (Xinhua Net)

HONG KONG, Nov. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- All seeds cruised into the next round at the Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships 2005 Wednesday except South Korea's No. 1 Lee Hyun II and Athens Olympic silver medalist Audina Tjiptawan from the Netherlands.

Lee Hyun II suffered an early exit after losing 0-2 to Yohan Wiratama of Hong Kong, China. Audina Tjiptawan was upset by French player Pi Hongyan 0-2.

In the men's singles, Chinese players Lin Dan, Chen Hong and Bao Chunlai defeated their opponents with easy 2-0 victories.

In the women's singles, Xie Xingfang crushed her rival 2-0.

In the mixed doubles, Zheng Bo/Zhao Tingting stormed into the next round by beating their opponents 2-0. In the women's doubles, Gao Ling/Huang Sui also beat their rivals 2-0. Enditem

    Good one, Voodoo

Lee Hung Il lost and may be he forgot his Gin-seng tonic the night before......I watched LHI played b4 when he is at his best, boy, he is so fast and one his day, it doesn't matter who is on the other side of the net, be it Lin Dan, Cheng Hong, Taufik, LCW, or Peter G, what he lacks is consistency. Having said all this, it is very hard to win back to back tournaments, Cheng Hong did that in 2003.

Sorry to mess with you again but is it called an upset when Pi, a higher-ranked player, beat Mia, a lower-ranked player? We all know ranking does not really describe the players' ability 100% accurate since Mia won the Olympic silver medal two times in a row. Technically it is not an "upset" since Mia's ranking is below that of Pi's.

Nevertheless, you are right! It is sad to see good players like Mia Audina and Lee Hyun Il exit early in a tournament :crying: .

Lee Hyun-il lost but Shon Seung-mo won beat Sony Dwi Kuncoro, apparently. I think that was Day 3. He has advanced to the round of 16. So have Seo Yoon-hee (over a Scottish woman) and the mixed pair Lee Jae-jin and Lee Hyo-jung (over an Australian pair).

Wiratama, who beat Lee, is the guy who also beat Simon Santoso in the first round. He's having a good tournament.

If LCW (or anyone other than Lin Dan) beat Taufik, it is still considered an upset, even if Taufik is ranked lower. So, ranking does not matter as much as perception of form. Months ago, perhaps Pi beating Mia would be considered an upset. But currently (after seeing Pi's form in the Danish Open), I would consider the reverse an upset.

Anyway, this tournament is officially the worst in 2005 in terms of results dissemination. It is especially shocking given that it is a 6* event in one of the most advanced countries in Asia. Not only does the official website fail in this capacity, even the local media does not seem interested.

The main site is okay? No live scoring. Results two days old. Nothing coming up on the English site for over 24 hours and no women's singles results at all for the English or Chinese versions. This is okay? This is like the definition of a poorly done site.

You seem to have all the Korean players' results. I think the only way to get results right now is to depend on the newspapers to publish their own national players' results. Then maybe we can piece them all together to get the full results. sigh...

In fact, she did win two silver in a row as she couldn't participate in 2000.
About her defeat against Pi Hongyan, it appears that Hongyan is in top form after winning Denmark Open and Mia isn't at her best, so it isn't so surprising.
    Unlucky draw this is...

And this can definately not be called an "upset", as Hongyan is higher ranked than Mia and is the seeded player of the two.
If Mia had won the match, it would have been an upset.
