i spose it depends on the height of the opponent. it wud be a little unfair to reach over the net and the midget jumping up and down

well most of the time i shake hands over the net but there are the times that i go over to the other side and do it i guess i really only do that if it was a great game, and well if the person is vertically challenged then i will shake under the net.

    Above the net!!!

Above the net shows more respect, because it's placed higher. And to really show respect, be the first to attemp to shake hands.

but if its respectful, then wont you both be wanting to get there first and it could end up being like a race.
it would be funny if the badmin match was just a warm up for the handshake race:D

I pretty much always shake hands over the net because I'm 6'4", I'd probably injure myself if I tried to shake hands under the net  .

I feel sorta strange replying to a thread that was last answered to 4 years ago... @_@

But anyway, recently I was playing a match against this guy at my club, and I ended up beating him (even though I strongly believe that he was going easy on me) and when up to him to shake hands, he just handed me the shuttle instead #_#. I just stood there staring at the shuttle while he walked away and then started snickering when I realized what had just happened. It looked sort of strange because I was just standing in the middle of the court laughing by myself. I walked away when I noticed that everyone was staring at me... ^_^

Something similar happened to me once, but instead of handing me a shutttle, my opponent handed me his racquet thinking that I wanted to see it or something... ^.^

depends. when i played with the usual friends, we never shook hand because we ebd up chatting while catching our breath for the next game. when we play with others that is not familiar to our group, we usually just smile, nod and say thank you. some even put their hands up in the air while nodding and smiling and saying thank you. :D but once i entered a competition just for fun and i shook the opponents' hands under the net because we were all shorties. cant reach above the net comfortably. :)
