INA squad for Sudirman Cup 2011

I think this is the best team that INA could form :
...

MD
Combination of Hendra,Alvent,Bona,Ahsan. Hendra/Alvent are more stable now. Alvent/Bona also not bad, they win the bronze medal in Asian Games by beating Chen Xu/Guo Zhendong.

...

The pair you meant should be Alvent/Ahsan. Bona was not playing in AG

I personally think Mel-Greys is better and more consistent than Nitya-Greys....... Overall proof: their world rank today! When Greys was with Nitya, they never accomplished very much......... :p

Not official yet ( can change on deadline):
MS; TH, Hayom, Simon'
WS: Firda, Lindaweni, Hera Desi
WD: Greys Mel, Nitya Fenya ( no words on Vita yet)
MD: Ahsan, Alvent, AG dan Bona
XD: Debby, Frans/Pia, Towi/Butet

@limsy : no, Kido is preparing for his wedding and Hendra Setiawan is injured.

I can't believe that the officials are dumb enough not to call Aprilia on the field. Instead they call Desi Hera....sigh

Good call, with the exception of Desi (with Linda in her place)

Bona/Ahsan will be prepared for bigger event, Olympic next year, so it is time to gathering qualification points

Alvent injured in the final of Malaysian GP gold last week. Hope he fully recovers for Sudirman Cup

Young Guns Lead Indonesia’s Charge at Sudirman Cup

A young brigade of shuttlers will represent the country at the Sudirman Cup later this month, a move one official hopes will inject some much-needed change into Indonesian badminton.

If the country hopes to re-establish itself as a force in the sport, many believe it has to give its younger shuttlers more international exposure.

Hadi Nasri, head of athletes’ development at the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), said the lineup for the Sudirman Cup, which features 11 players under the age of 24, was meant to address that issue.

The 18-member squad named for the world mixed-team badminton championship in Qingdao, China, has an average age of 24. The tournament will run from May 22-29.

Although most of them are young, they are the best shuttlers that we have right now,” Hadi said on Monday.

They deserve to be in the squad because of the progress they’ve been showing and the achievements they’ve had in recent tournaments.”

Men’s doubles shuttler Alvent Yulianto Chandra is the oldest member of the squad at 31, while 19-year-old women’s doubles player Anneke Feinya Agustine is the youngest.

Veteran men’s doubles shuttler Markis Kido praised the PBSI’s decision to field a younger team.

“I’m with the PBSI on this matter because I think those youngsters should be given more responsibility in big tournaments such as this,” he said.

Markis and his playing partner, Hendra Setiawan, were not called up because both are battling lingering knee injuries.

In the absence of Markis and Hendra, who are the reigning Asian Games champions, Mohammad Ahsan and Bona Septano, Markis’s younger brother, have been designated as the team’s first men’s doubles pair.

Indonesia has not won the Sudirman Cup since topping the inaugural edition in 1989, in Jakarta. But Hadi said it was too early at this point to be talking about bringing home the title.

“What we should think about right now is how to qualify from the group stage. We’ll talk about titles later on,” he said.

Indonesia’s Sudirman Cup squad:

Men’s singles: Taufik Hidayat, Simon Santoso and Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka

Women’s singles: Adriyanti Firdasari, Lindaweni Fanetri

Men’s doubles: Bona Septano and Mohammad Ahsan, Alvent Yulianto Chandra and Hendra Aprida Gunawan

Women’s doubles: Greysia Polii and Meiliana Jauhari, Nitya Krishinda Maheswari and Anneke Feinya Agustine

Mixed doubles: Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir, Fran Kurniawan and Pia Zebadiah Bernadet, Debby Susanto

Tontowi ready to make Indonesia proud at Sudirman Cup

Agnes Winarti, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Thu, 05/12/2011 8:00 AM | Sports

Mixed doubles player Tontowi Ahmad can’t stop smiling whenever he recalls the day his neighbors flocked to a large TV placed in the front yard of his parents’ home in Selandaka village to watch him and his teammate Liliyana Natsir win the recent India Open Super Series final.

It was his first Super Series title, which the 24-year-old has determined won’t be his last. Not long
after the stint in New Delhi, Tontowi and Liliyana snatched another title at the Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold.

“If it wasn’t because of my father, I wouldn’t continue to play badminton at this level, which I realize is not my highest yet. That’s why I will keep improving until I reach the highest level and make my parents even prouder of me,” said the native of Purwokerto, Central Java, whose crystal clear aims are to get a world champion title this year and an Olympic gold medal in London next year.
