Your Fencing team did very well. Didn’t know that fencing was a top team for your country. Well done.
Yesterday Higuchi Rei Defeated Indian boy with 10-0 in wrestling 57kg. He missed Tokyo by 50gms! Rei used very different technique against Indian.
India finishes the note with 1 Silver, 5 Bronzes and 6 fourth place finishes. I won’t go into specifics coz I’ve already said it a lot of times. Some of my other views are written below for masses who believe CWG, Asiad medals will help us in OG: Problem is Asian Games, CWG performances won’t convert in OG. Why ? Because in those games we are doing very well but not the best in the world. If you check Central Asian and other nations, they are the best in some sports which helps them move up in Olympic rankings. A very small example: Tejinder Pal Toor is Asian champion in shot put but not even top 20 performance in this year OG. Compare that with Uzbek boxers. They are top at Asian level. At the same time they are top at word level. Unka conversion dekhna. That’s why I don’t feel ASIAD and CWG will always show you true growth. CWG mei athletics and swimming level better than Asiad. Asiad mei weightlifting, wrestling way better than CWG. Badminton is more or less same in OG and Asiad. So the crux is you have to see which medals in Asian Games mean to you for upcoming Olympics. Forgot to quote you, so mentioning @Airos. Give your thoughts.
So this olympics is over. I thought I should give some closing remarks. Looks like you have already mentioned me. Quite a bit sub-standard results for India. Only 6 medals and no gold. Even if by some great fortune the court allows Vinesh to have a silver, we will still have just 7 medals with no gold. So no matter what, our results are worse than previous time. Apparently, among all the fourth place finishes that India ever had in all olympics, a quarter of them came in this olympics only. Apart from that, several other near misses thanks to boxing quarter finals losses and shooting final round losses. But being badminton fans, the one that really hurt was India's 0 medals in badminton and Lakshya's missing the bronze. This olympics almost reminds a bit of the Rio olympics where we won less than expected. But even in Rio, we had a medal in badminton as a consolation prize. I too feel that we need to work on our conversion rate. May be instead of aiming for just medals of any colour in AG and CWG, we should aim for gold medals at world stage, so that even if we slip, we might still get a medal. Regarding Vinesh, I thought the rules are quite strange. She did fine in weighing the first day. So she should at least get the silver in my opinion. Also, some of the boxing judgments looked strange to me. And here I was dreaming that we might finish in top 35 with 2 golds. We couldn't even finish in top 70!
I’ve created an excel. A roadmap for us 2052 and above. Discussed about each and every OG sport (LA 2028), its past status , present status and what we can do for future ? @Cheung how should I attach excel file here ?
Would love to read it. May be, if it cannot be directly attached, you can upload it to a file hosting website and paste the link?
Found this discussion on youtube: I find the arguments of the female Haryana anchor(Preeti) interesting. She argues that the reason Haryana does so well in sports is because the state government gives large incentives for sportspeople. She suggests that every state should adopt such a model.
