As Paris Olympics is just weeks away, I create this thread specifically for all discussions regarding Indian Badminton team.

I hope Indian team does well and create more history. Should we dream ? I say why not ?

They have a good chance to perform better than before as Thomas Cup gold, Asian Games Men’s team silver, SatChi Asian Games Gold, numerous MS medals in WC since 2021 OG, Asian team championship women’s gold should give our players encouragement.

All the best to our whole contingent not just our Badminton squad. For other sports performance of Indian team in Paris Olympics related chit chat, I’ve created this thread

I was actually hoping to create this thread (or a similar one). But good job, you beat me to it!

Now we have 3 threads for Paris and I suggest we use them like this:

use the thread below from me for predictions for India and discussing prediction outcomes:
https://www.badmintoncentral.com/fo...-indian-representation-in-paris.188352/page-4

use this thread from Baddie Lover for discussions of badminton performances from our Indian players:
https://www.badmintoncentral.com/fo...n-badminton-players-at-paris-olympics.191918/

and use the thread below from Baddie Lover for discussing general Indian sporting performance at Paris

Yes, let’s start hyping from today. No time left bro. I’ll post my predictions in that thread in some time.

So @Cheung, if you are reading this - since you have closed my thread, can I request you to move all the replies from post 64 onwards in that thread to either this thread or the chit-chat thread by Baddie Lover "India at Paris Olympics", or possibly to a new thread.

I didn't think it was off-topic as the title of the thread had "predicting" in it and badminton was included. But you are the boss. So, I request you to move from post 64 onwards to whichever you feel is appropriate or start a new thread if necessary.

So let's get back to topic.
Today is the opening ceremony and Sindhu is going to be one of the flag bearers apparently. Good for Indian badminton.
Matches start tomorrow.

Watched insta stories of Boe. Boe, Agus in Indian attires. Was very happy to see Prakash Padukone, Vimal and Gopichand together in that Olympic boat for India at OG. Ashwini was looking stunning and elegant.

So badminton action starts today. Pretty excited. I’ll have 2-3 screens ready for everyday now. My laptop, mobile and I’ll try to steal sister’s laptop lol.

Yes I saw them as well on TV. Great to see them.
I am also very excited.
And as I said in the chit-chat thread, badminton is one sport in which I really want 3 medals even though it might be mildly on the optimistic side.
Lakshya has it tough in the group stage, but I am hoping he can get out. After that between him and Prannoy, I hope one them can guide us to a MS medal.

Looks like Lakshya's win against Kevin Cordon is going to be deleted because KC withdrew.
This essentially means that Lakshya has to play 1 more match than everyone else in his group. Not good.
The only good thing is probably that he got a warm up.

I guess playing Olympics is a different ball game. LS was nervous as f*** in g1, almost lost it. In that game, for the first time I saw him struggling with movements. Glad he was able to pocket that game somehow, and played much better in g2. Now off for a group stage knockout with JC

I have come to the conclusion that as an Indian if you’re playing first OG, you’ll be a slow starter be it any sports. Chances are that you may not be able to proceed further unless you’re Neeraj Chopra. This would segregate champion mentality from others. Next match of Lakshya is most crucial. Hope for the best

I thought Lakshya played decent. Probably took it a bit easy in the first game.
But the next match will be crucial. It will be a testing game against Jonathan Christie and Lakshya Sen has to win it. I hope Lakshya manages to win.

Today is the most important match of Lakshya’s career yet. In 1.5 hours, match will start. Let’s hope for the best from him.

SatwikChirag played like one of top seeds yesterday. What a win against FajRi. Played like a top pair and defeated Indonesians comfortably. Come on SatChi. We have high hopes from you.

Guys, views on Lakshya’s win today ? I already wrote in Paris badminton thread. So won’t copy here.

He seems to be finely tuned for Olympics. Recent changes I could notice in his game are sharp shuttle placement during drives, and taking more risks at net. That behind the back shot towards the end of g1 literally changed the match in LS’s favor imo. I guess that kinda doubles intensity is what he was working with that Korean coach. All being said, one can argue LS’s win was aided by JC’s meltdown too. But with this win in his pocket, we have reasons to believe LS will have the confidence to compete with more stable players later in the tournament.

MD knockout draw released.

SatChi will face ChiaSoh against whom they have 3-8 win loss record with 3 wins coming in last 3 matches. If we win, we’ll most probably face WangLiang against whom we have 2-5 win loss record. All 5 wins of WangLiang had gone to 3 games. Our 2 wins against them have been in straights with latest win against them was in 2023 Asian Games men’s team event final.

I think "fine-tuned for olympics" is a pretty apt phrase. Lakshya indeed looked pretty impressive during his win against Jonathan. I got good vibes from him. After the WTs French Open and All England in March, I missed most of the Badminton action till olympics. I think Lakshya's game has improved a bit in the last 3-4 months.
I was especially impressed by his back of the head return towards the end of first game and his controlled retrieval from back-court while moving backwards towards the end of second game. Although in patches, he played well.

But that said, I also found Prannoy to be quite impressive. He is playing at a level close to the world championships where he medalled. After the loss of first game against his Vietnamese opponent, he came back strongly with some impressive play.

Both Lakshya and Prannoy look like genuine medal contenders to me. It's really sad that they have to be play each other so early. But whoever wins between them should bring a medal.

Honestly, I wouldn't care too much about H2H. Especially not with Sat-Chi. The important thing is that they have won before and on important occasions. If our duo can play close to their max, they are a very difficult opponent to beat, even for the other best MD pairs. So I am still expecting a medal from them.
Also, I wouldn't count out the Indonesian MD pair completely. They might have lost easily to our duo in the groups, but they might have been conserving energy.

BTW, so many big matches for India today in badminton. I hope for the best so that all 3 of our medal hopes remain alive after the round.

Yes my motive was just to give the idea. Like pre match thing. Even I am confident that they have the potential to beat them. It will be a good test. I hope we get good news from badminton today.

Today’s SatwikChirag loss has got to be one of the most devastating losses for me personally not just in Indian badminton but in my long experience of watching Indian sports. I simply can’t take the loss, actually wasn’t able to take for first 30 mins or so then cooled off by talking to some of my badminton buddies of BC.

14-11 lead in decider and after that was an unexpected turn of events. So many cheap points. So many. Pressure and nerves were so visible. Today ChiaSoh didn’t win the match. SatChi lost it, gifted the points. Man, I was hurt.

This was the best chance for us to take Indian badminton to next level. MD medal or gold medal would have been historic. Would have done wonders for badminton in the country. I’ll wait another 4 years with my whole heart supporting for them. I know they know what they missed today. Today I was not angry at them, rather I was down watching them lose. Such good attitude and kind hearted people, I know they’ll come back stronger. Till then, we are with you SatChi.

Take these matches as play not as personal. Life has to go. I feel some tension in you even after we spoke to each other after their loss.
