Indonesia’s Pros Take Center Stage at Denmark Open

Jakarta. As the national shuttlers focus on preparing for the Asian Games, it’s on their professional counterparts to end Indonesia’s misery in international competition when the Denmark Open starts today.

Citing the amateurs’ poor performance abroad, the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) decided not to field them in the next two Super Series — in Odense, Denmark, this week and the French Open on Nov. 2-7.

The PBSI said it would be best if the national team just trained for next month’s Asian Games in China, and left the task of winning in Denmark up to the pros.

Taufik Hidayat, who is still searching for his first Super Series win of the year, leads the Indonesia squad in Denmark.

The world No. 5 is also scheduled to participate in the Asian Games, but his training for the Asiad will not be supported by the PBSI.

“Playing in Denmark will help me develop a competitive edge as the Asian Games approaches,” Taufik said.

“Since the association caters only to the needs of the national team, the best way for pros like myself to prepare for the Asiad is by joining more tournaments like the Super Series.”

Men’s doubles shuttlers Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan, seeded No. 2 in Denmark, are playing together for the first time since the world championships in Paris in August.

Hendra is fresh off a stint in the Japanese badminton league, but Markis said the duo was ready to end their Super Series dry spell.

Markis and Hendra take on Japan’s Naoki Kawamae and Shoji Sato in the first round of the Denmark Open.

“Our main target is to win the gold medal in the Asian Games,” Markis said. “We want to have momentum going to China, and it all starts in Odense for us.”

Another Indonesian men’s doubles pair, No. 3 seeds Alvent Yulianto Chandra and Hendra Aprida Gunawan, will begin their campaign in Denmark against Adam Cwalina and Michal Logosz of Poland.

Hendra will also compete in mixed doubles, where he is teaming up with Vita Marissa. Their first-round opponents are Yohan Hadikusumo Wiratama and Tse Ying of Hong Kong.

Vita will partner with Nadya Melati in women’s doubles, where they open their bid against Amanda Madsen and Josephine Van Zaane of Denmark.

Although the Super Series offers competitors a lucrative payday, Christian Hadinata, the national team head coach, said he would rather rest the professional shuttlers for the Asian Games.

“Our biggest concern right now is their conditioning,” Christian said.

“We just hope our professional shuttlers, who are also joining us to the Asian Games, can stay away from injuries and maintain a high level of fitness for Guangzhou,” he added.

Indonesia’s best medal hopes for the Asian Games come from the professional side, with Taufik, Markis and Hendra seen as potential gold winners.

“Some of our top national team shuttlers, such as Sony [Dwi Kuncoro] and Simon [Santoso], are not in their best condition, so our hopes fall mostly on our professional players,” Christian said.

Susi and Ivana Critisize The Exercise Format (For Pratama)

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The fall achievement Indonesian badminton championship in the last few make the two former athletes badminton, Susi Susanti and Ivana Lie feel the need to spark reform in terms of coaching at the national training body, especially for pratama.
According to Susie, PB PBSI should set standards that standard on a coach pratama criteria. Moreover pelatnas pratama forerunner of senior players who will become the foundation of the nation in the international championship.

"It is not intended to discourage players but apparently pelatnas pratama standards that exist today are much lower than outside pelatnas. So, need to be reviewed on how the selection of coaches pratama like what and what are the criteria?" said the gold medalist in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics this.
Susi also hope that athletes who are members of pelatnas pratama should have a range under 15 years of age. It is thought possible for coaching can be more effective. "Ideally pratama entry should be under 15 years because the process to become an elite athlete it is quite long, about 7-8 years. It would be better, in each year also made the selection and degradation so that they are more motivated," he explained.
He added that every coach should not be uniform all young athletes. "Every athlete is different to handle, the program and how to train also different. Do not be generalized," he said.
While Ivana just hope the coach is to maximize the ability of athletes pratama by placing it in several numbers at once. This is in accordance with a system of coaching is done in some other countries such as South Korea and Thailand.
"Better athletes pratama derived at least in two numbers. In addition to the opportunity to compete for more, physical and mental abilities they were also more honed. Only when they can find the benefits they can focus on one particular number," says Ivana.
Commenting on a matter of discourse foreign coach some time ago, badminton players of the 1980s is precisely the PB PBSI expect more major improvements in the internal before it is ready to import a new coach. "What should be considered is to create a conducive atmosphere first before bringing a foreign coach. Also need to review further whether really need to bring in foreign petih or simply by deploying a local coach (former players)," said Ivana.

    Club, Blood for Pelatnas PBSI

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - In the history of the development of national training badminton in Indonesia, the club proved to be very large role in supplying players.
Almost all players who join the national training PBSI has been derived from badminton clubs in Indonesia. Usually, players who elected to pelatnas pratama is a player who has good points and ratings are calculated from the results of a national tournament series like kejurnas, Sirnas, and of course that was held other national private parties. In the event that young players from clubs in order to realize the dream clash ability to enter into the national training.

For the main national training, usually a vacant place will be filled because of system degradation from pelatnas pratama player who is considered to have the ability to go up the class into the main national training. There are times to go to a national training, players do not pass line or pelatnas kejurnas pratama. Usually, players are taken through this shortcut have careers and are quite accomplished.
Although there are two different paths, they all come from the club. Almost never happens the player who truly independent with no club can penetrate pelatnas, given the intense competition that exist today. This proves how important the club's role in supplying players to fill a place in the national training.
At present, among a number of badminton clubs that exist, PB Djarum arguably as the most consistent clubs in conducting coaching players. Besides having modern facilities to develop players, PB Djarum also diligent in sending players to follow the tournament, both at home and abroad. Generally, at another club, the player who joined the club in a way to come and register with the club concerned. However, PB Djarum also have an additional form of players who pass the audition and audition were given scholarships to train and live in a dormitory with guaranteed standards and have the opportunity to participate in tournaments, both domestically and abroad.
"The process of sending our players must watch the level and type of tournament. If the election is right, players will come out 'guts bertandingnya'. If mental playing is growing, the next step is to send players to the tournament to a higher level. The hope of course develop the skills of players, "said Yoppy Rosimin, Chairman of PB Djarum.
According Yoppy, there is some kind of championship is to be coveted. First, to find the points championship. This is important for ranking players enough to wear to a particular championship. Second, the championship which is used to test the ability of competing players. Third, the championship elite and prestigious option.
Currently, several players inhabit pelatnas Djarum PB PBSI. One of them was Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka. Since early 2010, this men's singles players into the main national training without passing pelatnas pratama because judged to have a great talent and shows the achievements prior to joining the national training. The latest achievement is to penetrate the final Hayom Indonesia Gold Grand Prix tournament in Samarinda, October 2010, before finally defeat at the hands of Taufik Hidayat.
Besides Hayom, PB Djarum players other is still incorporated in the national training Olympic bronze medalist, 2008, Maria Kristin. There are also M Ahsan, Fran Kurniawan, Tontowi Ahmad, Meiliana Jauhari, and Shendy Puspa Irawati. "At the club, I got valuable experience. Among these competing experience, both inside and outside the country. This experience has become one of the things that are useful when I pulled into national training, "said Fran, who is playing in mixed doubles with Pia Zebadiah.
Meanwhile, the dropout PB Djarum had joined a national training and having the world achievements, like Liem Swie King (three-time All England champion), Alan Budikusuma (Olympic gold medalist 1992), and as Eddy Hartono / Rudy Gunawan, Ardy BW, Sigit Budiarto, Hariyanto Arbi, Ivana Lie, Minarti East, and many others. "Actually, our commitment has always never changes, is to look for and nurture talented players. Even if the fine assessed and asked to join the national training, we'll take it off. We did this coaching goals for the sake of bringing glory Indonesian badminton, "said Yoppy again.
"It has long been the club did have a big enough contribution for PBSI. There is a reciprocal relationship between the two parties. Looking ahead, I hope this relationship can continue to operate in a positive way, "said Ivana Lie, former national team player Djarum and who is now a staff of experts Menpora.
PB Djarum addition, other clubs are also often donated his players for national training Alfamart Agile PBSI is Jakarta which is the club Ricky Subagdja / Rexy Mainaky (Olympic champion 1996) and Nova Widianto / Lilyana Natsir (world champion 2005 and 2007), Jaya Raya Jakarta as the club's Markis Kido / Hendra Setiawan (2008 Olympic champion and world champion 2007) and Candra Wijaya / Tony Gunawan (Olympic champion 2000), SGS Bandung, which is the club's Taufik Hidayat (2004 Olympic champion and world champion 2005), and the shade Sony Suryanaga Dwi Kuncoro (2004 Olympic silver medalist).
PBSI Pelatnas Kasubid Christian Hadinata warned that joining the pelatnas PBSI is not the final target of the player. Indeed, the entry of a player to a national training is the beginning of the struggle for achievement. "One if the players were content when he was elected to national training. This is not the final goal of the player. Indeed, in this pelatnas players have to train harder to get the highest accomplishments, "said Christian

    Depressing result on AG:

TH and the rest of the contingent out on the QF. The result could have been worst if the 2 MD pairs did not make it to the SF, hopefully they will get good result and make it all INA final. But its 2 mountains to climb, JJS/LYD is in a superb form and KKK/TBH is as good as ever.

On the mens team event INA lost 3-0 to CHN and the women team lost 3-1 to Thailand

It makes me sad considering our past glories :crying:

The failure of regeneration is no doubt occured, i just hope its being realised and rectify
