If that is indeed the case, how do you explain this?

Yeah, biggest shock indeed from lesser known WS to beat Chinese top-seed. Liu Xin is really struggling lately...

A few pleasant results involving both Pelatnas and non-Pelatnas players so far.

    Pelatnas:
    MD
    Andrei Adistia/Christopher Rusdianto
bt Takeshi Kamura/Keigo Sonoda - a good result for Andrei/Christopher, beating the Japanese pair who won the Osaka Challenge title earlier this year, beating Ulin/Ricky and Markus/Agri to the title. With the withdrawal of Bona/Ahsan, I expect them to reach at least QF.

    XD
Lukhi Apri Nugroho/Annisa Saufika bt Tan Wee Kiong/Vivian Hoo Kah Mun - MAS players are more experienced while the INA pair is a junior pair that just entered Pelatnas early this year. They will possibly meet their seniors Rijal/Debby for a place in the last 8.

    Non-Pelatnas:
    WS
    Tieke Arieda Ningrum
bt Liu Xin [1] - the biggest upset so far over the top-seeded CHN WS player.

    MD
    Praveen Jordan/Didit Juang Indrianto
bt Kang Ji Wook/Lee Sang Joon - a small upset by the PB Djarum's pair. They will face Ulin/Ricky for a place in the last 8.

    WD
    Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth/Rizki Amelia Pradipta
[6] bt Choi Hye In/Kim So Young - not exactly an upset, but I would expect a tougher match. Pia/Rizki should fulfill their seeding (QF) and possibly face Nitya/Feinya (Pelatnas's best hope for a WD title this week) for a last 4 spot.

    XD
    Rendra Wijaya/Devi Tika Permatasari
bt Kim Ki Jung/Jang Ye Na [6] - what an upset by the scratch pairing of Rendra/Devi over the seeded Korean pair.

    Edi Subaktiar/Melati Daeva Oktaviani
bt Riyo Arief/Aan Dwi Cahyanti - not exactly an upset but the Djarum pair (also INA's no 1 U19 XD pair) will face the above pair (Rendra/Devi) for a place in the last 8.
