I think the use of social-media marketing [including the face-painting-photo competition on facebook], collaboration with non-sport media [such as Feminagroup, who owns Gadis, Femina, and Men's Health], massive advertising push [online+offline], multiple pre-event activities [celebrity smash, car-free day badminton demonstration, quality of world-class participants, along with other improvements really gave this IO a huge boost...
There is still another hope for massive improvements in 2012... an upgraded Istora! ....which will include a sports-bar, 12000 seat stadium [now only 7000], multiple videotrons etc... Basically, 'USA level' upgrades...
