*Btw, kwun/mods, don't know if you guys want to merge this thread/posts with the one in the Professional Players sub-forum??..as it's mentioning the same topic as well..

I just heard from Musica Champion people that Li Yongbo did not allow Chen Hong to compete in Indonesia's Superliga Badminton... [even though Chen has already retired from the national team, Li Yongbo still have the power to stop him from competing]...

My info said: the club interested in hiring Peter Gade is Suryanaga Gudang Garam... [And I think they have the money...]

PB. Tangkas [formerly Bimantara Tangkas and later Bogasari Tangkas]... mmm... I think they have some cash flow problems... They don't have money to hire a lot of expensive foreign players.

Hey everyone,

Preliminary round

The preliminary round is set to start in 2 weeks. If I am not mistaken: April 3-7 in Surabaya. 11 clubs will compete for the last 3 spots of the male competition:
PB Indocafe; Medan, North Sumatra
PB Ratih; Banten
PB Aufa; Jakarta
PB Musica Champion; Central Java
PB BPKD KuKar; East Kalimantan
PB CBN Batam; Kepulauan Riau
PB Wima; Surabaya, East Java
PB Mutiara; Bandung, West Java
PB Kotab Dishub; Bandung, West Java
PB South Suco; South Sulawesi
PB Randik; South Sumatra

8 clubs will compete for the last 3 spots of the female competition:
PB Indocafe; Medan, North Sumatra
PB Ratih; Banten
PB Bina Bangsa; Jakarta

PB CBN Batam; Kepulauan Riau
PB Semen Gresik; Surabaya, East Java
PB Mutiara; Bandung, West Java
PB Kotab Dishub; Bandung, West Java
PB South Suco; South Sulawesi

I predict the usual suspects will go through to the final round [in June 23rd - July 1]. By usual suspects, I mean: Mutiara Bandung and Ratih Banten.... :) both in the men and women event.

The very last spot for the men's draw... maybe CBN Batam [Riau Kepulauan] or Musica Studios [Central Java]. Musica is full of former or current Djarum players who are not chosen to be part of the main team.

The last ladies' spot... let me go with PB Semen Gresik. They have Aprillia Yuswandari who just won the German Junior... :)

Indonesia will be the first one in Southeast Asia. Japan already have a badminton league and the corporate sponsors are Sanyo, NEC, etc.

Germany and Denmark has a badminton league, I am not sure about Holland, but I would say so. Denmark's league is very competitive and have helped develop the young Danish talents.

Unfortunately, I can't say the same about the German league. They are waaayyy too dependent on foreign players. As a result, the local German players are not as well developed [yet]. I know they have improved their Thomas and Uber Cup standings in recent years, but not fast enough...:) [this is my opinion, of course]

Other news:
• Chen Hong was not allowed to play by Li Yongbo. No surprise there... :p
• Peter Gade and Kenneth J. wanted to play, but not this year. This year the schedule is too tight and they want to spend time with their family. [I can understand that]
• Lee Tsuen S. will play for Musica Champions.
• Nguyen T. will play for that Kalimantan club [forgot the name... sorry]
• Preliminary round will be in Surabaya next week...
• For further updates, the newest news [in Indonesian] will be at www.bulutangkis.com

Superliga Badminton
Tsuen Seng Ramaikan Persaingan

Djarum Superliga Badminton dipastikan bakal berjalan sengit. Kepastian itu didapat setelah pemain nomor empat Malaysia, Lee Tsuen Seng, bakal membela klub Musica Champion Kudus, Jawa Tengah. Siapa lagi yang akan berlaga?

Tsuen Seng kini membela klub KLRC, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Dia menduduki peringkat 21 dunia.

Pemain asal Vietnam, Nguyen Tien Minh, bakal membela klub BPKD Kutai Kartanegara, Kalimantan Timur.

Tsuen Seng Enhances Competition

The Djarum Badminton Superleague is expected to be hotly contested. That much is certain after Malaysia’s 4th ranked player, Lee Tsuen Seng, will be spearheading the challenge from the Musica Champion Kudus Club, Central Java. Who else will be competing?

Tsuen Seng now represents the KLRC Club, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He is currently ranked 21st in the world. His most spectacular achievement was in defeating Taufik Hidayat in the final of the 2002 Thomas Cup in Guangzhou, China, despite Malaysia eventually going down to Indonesia 2-3.

Other than Lee Tsuen Seng, according to Ario Satrio Prakoso, the Directorate Representative of the League Operations, the Badminton Superleague will have significant foreign participation. Despite most of them not being in the forefront of the world rankings, their presence alone is expected to enhance the competition even further.

The Vietnamese born player, Nguyen Tien Minh, will be representing the BPKD Kutai Kartanegara Club, East Kalimantan. This player, born on 12 February 1983, had at the XV Asian Games in Doha shown amazing performance. The Ho Chi Minh City bred player was able to defeat Lee Hyun-Il (Korea) and Boonsak Ponsana (Thailand) in the team competition.

“Both players will definitely feature in Surabaya. Meanwhile, other clubs are still enticing other world class players to participate in the Badminton Superleague.” Ario added.

CBN Withdraws

The Djarum Badminton Superleague with start with the qualification phase at GOR Sudirman, Surabaya, from 3 to 7 April. 10 men’s and 7 women’s teams from provinces across the country step forward to battle for 3 tickets for the Final Round in Jakarta, on 21st June to 1 July.

These 3 qualifiers will then do battle with 5 major clubs that had already been given direct entry to the Final Round. These clubs are Tangkas Jakarta, Jayaraya Jakarta, SGS Bandung, Djarum Kudus, and Suryanaga Surabaya. The league format uses the same system as per the Thomas and Uber Cups respectively.

“Actually the CBN Batam Club initially wanted to participate, however due to a 2 foreign player maximum rule, they chose to withdraw. The CBN men’s and women’s teams withdrew due to lack of players.” Ario explained.

The Ratih Banten Club also did not want to be left behind. They brought in two Japanese players. These players agreed to participate after negotiations made by Reony Mainay, who once had a coaching stint there.

Meanwhile, the Mutiara Bandung Club is calling for the services of Atu Rosalina. The ex-Cipayung national trainee, who has since resigned, then continued her badminton career as a player with a Danish club.
