BWF needs to change. Ever since the retirement of LD/LCW, badminton's popularity has been in decline.

Specifically, I think BWF needs to address the following:

    (A) badminton needs a printed quarterly magazine published in English. Everyone wishes to have a permanent copy of their favourite tournaments in print. The magazine should at the very least include the following: (i) lots of photos; (ii) interviews with players, coaches, former players, BWF officials, etc; (iii) analyses of plays, (iv) review of shoes, rackets, strings, etc. Sponsors like Yonex, Mizuno, Victor, Li Ning etc need to pay for most if not all of the costs of publishing. Copies should be made available for purchase at BWF sanctioned tournaments. Your favourite players can autograph them. BWF is responsible for publishing the magazine, and sending them via post to institutional subscribers.

    (B) BWF needs to invite young coaches and former players, particularly those from European countries such as Germany and France, to commentate on past or present tournaments on youtube for free in their native languages. This is the best way the promote our sport in those countries. PS: just a group of young athletes chatting among themselves would be a whole lot better than a 60 year old man or woman talking by him or herself. Please learn from Kpop, particulary how Kpop have used youtube, social media and the internet in general to promote themselves for free.

It has been like this for years but they are stuck in old ways. They need complete overhaul of management. The sport, technology, media all moved on but they haven't. It should be more in the media considering how many people play it but it just doesn't attract the funding and sponsors as it should.

    Kindest regards,

I think the first priority should be Europe.

German and Swiss Opens should be promoted to Super 500, not Super 300 right now.

There should be more Super 300/500 tournaments throughout the entire Europe (including the UK and Ireland).

Perhaps really sit down and listen to it's stakeholders aka the players first? There has been on going complaints by numerous players on the frequency of it's tournament causing injuries and players are being punished when skipping tourneys due to injuries.

    BWF needs to become ITTF...

The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has announced this week the historic record of bids it has received to host its most important events: the Finals of the World Table Tennis Championships in 2027 and 2029, as well as the Finals of the World Team Championships in 2028.

In total, ten member associations have submitted their proposals with the idea of hosting these events, highlighting not only the global growth of this sport but also the enthusiasm of new and old hosts to organise these emblematic competitions. This is a circumstance that highlights the impact of table tennis in different regions of the world and establishes a solid foundation for the coming years.

Specifically, the countries that have expressed interest in hosting in 2027 are Brazil, China, France, Kazakhstan, and the United States, while the bids for 2028 come from China, Iraq, Italy, and Japan. As for 2029, the interested parties are Australia, Brazil, China, Germany, Iraq, and the United States. This wide range of candidates includes both countries with a rich history in organising ITTF events and new aspirants seeking to bring the championship to new territories.

From my perspective as a viewer, BWF is going the wrong direction. While they aren't going backwards, they are for sure going a route that is making it worse for everyone involved.

    1. With the sheer number of tournaments on the World Tour, as well as how top ranked players are required to play in them, is detrimental to the health of the players.

    2. Top ranked players are faced with 5000+ USD fine for failure to play in a tournament they are required to play in. For reference, a player or pair would have to make it to the semi finals of a Super 500 tournament in order to make more than the fine. This basically forces them to play even if they are not completely fit to play.

    3. The viewing experience is not that great (from the YouTube livestreams). While mostly dependent on the host itself, the angles are not that great, although BWF has recently been utilising different angles more, they still are not the best angles. Perhaps opinionated, but commentators besides Gill and Steen do not have any insightful commentary. I think Ben Lane? and Kirsty Gilmour are knowledgeable, but I do not think that there ability as a commentator are great. The others, whom I do not know the names of, are outright terrible. This makes it so that it is not at all engaging to new viewers. Frankly, it would be better to just not have any commentary than them.

    4. Prize money pool is too small. As mentioned above, a player would have to make it semi finals to at least make a decent amount. It is not very sustainable to have players keep going with middling rewards.

BWF should go the ATP route. Let all professionals go Independent. Create Slams. Let Viktor Axelsen win all of them. Get him nominated for Laureus. Declare Lakshya Sen the GOAT, tap into the Indian market that way.
