Isn't she playing with Chae YooJung?
I assumed they took a break so that CYJ could attempt Olympic qualification.

Kim So Young is still on the national team but no, she hasn't played internationally since Dubai. She did play in the recent Spring Championships in Gimcheon, though, so we are not looking at an injury, although she could have been injured earlier in the year. Now that Chae has failed to qualify for the Olympics, it appears she is going back to her two junior partners. She and Shin were withdrawn from the Indonesia Open and in Australia, she is back with Kim Ji Won in WD and Choi Sol Gyu in XD.

Kim is one of the 16 women who will be participating in tryouts for the national doubles squad, starting on May 24th.

No. They do these tryouts basically every year. She participated last year and made the team.

Updated news about Korea Thomas Cup and Uber Cup team.

    Korea team

Showed improvement overall. Compared to year 2014 they lost in the quarterfinals.
This year 2016 reach the semifinals. Although the players didn't reach the finals, the whole team have already shown good performance. All the Koreans truly appreciate all the hard work pour in by the players despite not reaching the finals. Winning China in the Quarterfinals is already the biggest achievements for them.

Yes would have love to see the Korean team in the finals. Despite not reaching the finals we all Koreans knew they had already tried their best. These players will always be our heroes winning the bronze medal. Don't give up team Korea. We will always support you.

Uber Cup team performance is also good this year 2016. Korea reached semifinals and won over Japan 3-1. Splendid performance. Then Korea reach the finals this year 2016. Despite not winning the Uber Cup, Korea already did a good job to win the silver medal this year. So don't give up team Korea we Koreans will always be there to support you all. Thank you.

Thank you once again team Korea for showing us such a great performance in this year 2016 Thomas and Uber Cup edition.

You're right. He's out. He's not on the current list, nor was he on the list published after the national team tryouts. These types of developments are rarely reported in the Korean press.

Doesn't his Asian games gold medal exclude him?

It did. He did have to do a little 4-week stint last year, which partly explains why he missed several tournaments and came back with a brush-cut, but he never belonged to the military for 21 months like Yoo and Jung did. Their medals came too late.

Yeah I know about that bit. Pity for Ko and Yoo. So much stress to win something back then

I guess the writing was on the wall for SBC... since the two Kims are going to Rio instead of him and KSH, due to KSH being unable to do double duties in both MD and XD. Poor guy, so unfortunate.

I'm guessing the irony was intentional. After all, the Badzine article points out that the announcement of the Shin-less national team was made during the Indonesia Open, nearly 4 weeks ago. Mind you, it still wasn't clear at that time, given that Shin was actually playing in a tournament with the rest of the national team.

    Shin Baek's Korean career over?

Well,he can proud of his achievements. Not many Korean MD can claim themselves to be a World Champion.

Well, if the article is to be believed, the intention is to return at a later date.

What I'm really worried about is Chae YooJung; she's been my favourite player since the first time I saw her. She needs a good partner to unlock her potential before the next Olympics.
