Day 8 - Discovering more about Penang..

Day 8 - Discovering more abt Penang..

..On the 2nd full day in Penang, the we went across the Penang bridge to enjoy some delicious seafood dishes @ this seafood place in Tanboon??. Afterwards, the sky opened up and we were doused with some rain on our way back. By the time we reached the ferry site for our journey across the small strait, the rain stopped but the sky still looked threatening. All four of us ended up in downtown Georgetown where we enjoyed some Ice Kacang before we ended the day, shortly after.

On the way to Butterworth, a city on the mainland side of Penang..Crossing the Penang Bridge..

This is the hometown of one of the BC members..

Auto-city...basically it is the downtown or happening place in BUtterworth..

The seafood restaurants where we went to eat for lunch..And inside the restaurant..

On the way back to the island..

Ferry ride back. It was a slow and smooth 30 minutes journey back to the island..Inside the ferry..

One leng lui my camera noticed..

Inside the food court, New World Park, where the four of us enjoyed the Ice Kacang dessert..

At Fort Cornwallis, another sightseeing place. This place used to be a fort for M'sia. Protected well with cannons.

    Another open air food court..

We ended the night at a well known, 24-hr Nasi Kandar (Indian curry specialty dishes) establishment..

Should make a count on food pics v non-food pics. My guess is it's about 40% for food. So does that mean chris spent 40% of his time eating:p

    Thomas Cup: Kepong-born Aussies

    2010/05/10

SIBLINGS Raj and Renuga Veeran used to be top shuttlers in Kuala Lumpur but their ambition to study abroad saw them leave the country for Australia.
[IMG] Raj (right) and Renuga Veeran. Now the siblings, who were born in Kepong, are representing Australia in the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals.

Renuga was a former national girls' champion before she opted to tag along with her brother to complete high school in Sydney in 2003.

"I was selected to join the Malaysian team but I declined as I wanted to pursue my studies in Australia," said the 24-year-old Renuga, a Commerce graduate, at Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil yesterday.

"Our dad sent my brother and me to Australia about seven years ago. After completing high school in Sydney, we moved to Melbourne to start our degree programmes.

"After completing our studies, we started playing badminton on a serious note before we were selected to join the Australian national team."

The Uber Cup is Renuga's first international assignment as she only gained her long-awaited Australian citizenship about two weeks ago.

"I feel honoured to play for Australia in the Uber Cup. I have been training with the national team for a long time," added Renuga.

Meanwhile, bother Raj, who is a member of the Australian Thomas Cup team, said he and his teammates have been preparing since late last year for the event.

"I gained my citizenship early this year and I managed to represent Australia in the Oceania qualifiers, which we won. I never dreamt of competing in the Thomas Cup and now that I have achieved it, I hope to go far in the sport," said Raj, an accounts graduate.

The siblings, elder sister V. Kavitha used to represent Malaysia in the late 1990s. They hope to emulate their sister's exploits but with Australia.

The siblings have also qualified for the mixed doubles in the World Championships in Paris in August.

"Renuga and I have taken six months leave from our respective jobs to prepare for the world meet," added Raj.
