Youtube is existed that time. Social media too which are friendster and myspace. The only different is, people don't took social media seriously like this era. My opinion, the problem nowadays is athlete glamorous is on parallel with celebrity. Which can cause them sometime to forget to keep feet on the ground to work hard rather than living on glamour moment in insta/fb/twitter.
http://sports.sina.com.cn/others/badmin/2018-07-02/doc-ihespqry7562596.shtml Kento Momota said," Lee Chong Wei really played very well, when he's playing, he doesn't the least bit look like a 35-year-old athlete." KM added," I have great respect for him.He is still one of the best men's singles players in the world, I still need to do a lot more to catch up with him."
can see LCW trained very hard and deserve all he got now. age catching up, so maybe in a year or max 2, he must learn to accept losing. maybe try double.
I see Chong Wei trying to play a more controlled type of game. Also seems that he implemented a few new shots into his game. Nice.
Age is taking a toll on LCW. LCW won the Malaysia Open because he managed to win every match in 2 sets. You can see he was extremely tired by the end of the 2nd set against Momota. Unfortunately for LCW, his age and stamina took a toll on him when he met Momota for the second time in Indonesia. The WC will be hard for LCW to win because LCW has to hope he can beat his opponents in 2 sets again. If LCW gets to the finals of the WC, but his opponent takes him to 3 sets, it will become even more difficult for LCW. It's not impossible, but it's just that much more difficult for him at 35 years old.
Endurance isn't usually what drops as you age, it's power/strength that wanes, as well as regeneration. So while I agree that he probably has to win almost all matches in 2 (in order to not have to regenerate from as much stress), 3 games in the final aren't a surefire loss. Losing the first game would be very costly for him though, as that allows a lot of tactical options for the leading player if they notice that second game slipping away, they can choose to play more economical, while the one playing catch-up can not, having to win the game at all cost....also LCW seems to get very demotivated when he loses the first game of an important match, that only adds to this.
That's why I'm hoping that LCW gets to meet the fittest and most difficult opponent(s) in the earlier rounds, by the quarterfinals which is actually R3 in the coming Nanjing WC, a sixth-round event, so that his stamina is still manageable. Then, hopefully, the penultimate and ultimate rounds, he comes up against opponents who are also facing the toll of accumulated fatigue to narrow down the gap in physicality. In that case, the luck of the draw matters quite a bit for him as for the other 'aged' players, esp Lin Dan who has his own set of problems besides fitness or lack thereof. Just a thought.
What does LCW drink during competitions? There is some talk that if you take amino acids during exercise, the breakdown of muscles is less. If he is doing this during practice or match times, then this could benefit recovery
Yeah BCAAs are a big seller in the 'fitness' industry...I'm guessing during matches it's some sort of Electrolyte and Carbohydrate mixture, to lessen the propability of cramps during the match (he does seem to have a predisposition for those). Possibly BCAAs as well, to better protect musculature, although I personally don't think that it's a huge deal, more problematic than the muscular breakdown during matches is probably the effect on the nervous system, which also takes longer than the musculature to recover. However I'm not at informed if and how one can positively affect recovery in that regard, apart from sleeping as well as possible (sleeping earlier and longer has been shown to have very significant performance benefits in elite athletes).
Over one match perhaps not much difference but over a five day competition, the muscle breakdown could be quite significant. These guys are on court approx 3 hours day during competitions. 2h practice and 1h on court for match.
Yes, but practice should definitely not be at a level where it affects the musculature negatively...more like getting a feel for the venue etc, and of course keeping the skills sharp, but actually straining themselves should not be on the agenda (unless they're already out of course ). I don't think LCW is overdoing it there, though. Low-stress activity actually has been proven to help recovery, to my understanding that is because you have a higher heart rate and better blood flow, thus accelerating the transport of nutrients and thus the recovery process.
Not sure if this has previously been discussed here. But I stumbled upon a movie about LCW, apparently in accordance to the book "Dare to be Champion".
as one aged, your recovery time get longer. like it or not, hou cannot that is life. LCW already did very well.
it is a bummer no LCW in World Championship and Asean Games. LCW needs to wait another year to try for Gold. any prestigious gold
Oh no...hope he recovers soon... http://bam.org.my/news/bams-official-statement-on-datuk-lee-chong-wei Edit: oops, link corrected. Sent from my SM-G965W using Tapatalk
