Lee Chong Wei ( 李宗伟 )

What's the role of Chef De Mission?
To represent and cater to the needs of the contingent. Hmm, how should I rephrase? Basically, anything major wants to be conveyed to athletes, then CDM is ideally needed. CDM is like an ambassador of the contingent.

I havent translated the whole interview so here it is (vid in post 14405) :

"All athletes, like me last time, have injuries. But we dont talk about it(ie to public). We carry the injury & manage it so it wouldnt become serious.
But suddenly at the tournament there's tough match, injured that part/re injured.

As an athlete, we have to face what people say. I feel that when we lose, we feel down, its normal.

Like I shared, Peng Soon, he cannot see his family. CPS has 4 children, cannot see them for 2 months.Cannot see his wife.*
This is the athletes sacrifice.

Its not like they go there, dont want to fight & lost. They tried their best.
When they win, I am there. When they lose, I am there. Cos I am the CDM. Doesnt matter win or lose, I am there, its my resposibility.

There are people who support, there are people who dont support, I accept all the comments.
As an ex athlete, I have gone through all this. When we win, all happy, people give congratulations.
Dont be when we lose, choke until cannot breathe."

* There was a centralized training for 2 months before Olympics where Olympic bound players train in a bubble.
They were not allowed to go home to see their families or mingle around. Players had to stay at the BAM hostel.

LCW is Chef De Mission for Msia for Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

It is his job to speak up for the athletes. It is not just LCW speaking as a retired badminton player but as the CDM.
This is why he spoke up so fast.

Like LCW say in Astro interview "It doesnt matter win or lose, I am there. For me, the responsibility is same because I'm as the CDM. Win, I am there. Lose, I am there"(translated from malay)

I think what LCW meant is Win or lose he as the CDM is there for the athletes.

Normally in the past the Sports Minister will say something to defend the athletes but this time LCW faster.
Most notably was criticism towards dressing woman's gymnastics muslim athlete. Farah Ann always gets the brickbats on this.

I didnt say lcw was wrong. But now Goh made a blunder to say shes injured before the game. She shd keep quiet. Ekse the juniors shd go instead knowing you cant win. ;)

Majority of athletes will be carrying some injuries - depends how severe or in a crucial area.

Agree. Every athletes also sacrifice for not meeting their families.

So, excuse is excuse. All great sports person goes thro this. Not only them. Some are even more severe with family death, tragedy, etc.. injury is peanuts. It is irresponsible to go denying others. ;)

Maturity and experience sure helps. Pre-mature or jumping the gun doesnt. ;)

Just look at polii. She lost her elder brother. And recently indonesians lost kido. Talk about adversity, blood, sweat and tears ;)
Correct!! She totally deserve the Gold. Definitely have gone through alot these few years for her. God have been keeping her sane and focus. She pray regularly.

Is it possible to stop bringing religion into these discussions? Afaik we're not in the middle ages, so we really don't have to credit God for every little positive thing that happens to us or things we achieve

Exactly, as if God (assuming 'He' exists) has nothing better to do than to engage in such petty worldly affairs and trifles, even taking sides, all while the world over there are the global pandemic roiling, serious conflicts everywhere, widespread extreme poverty and socioeconomic inequality, oppression, exploitation, injustices, diseases, natural catastrophes and man-made disasters, such as risk of global food shortages, severe weather, and so on and so forth.

I think BAM is very corrupt in itself for not investigating. The whole team including the exco are all corrupt. Very sad case. Even if they investigate, these corrupted devils will not go to jail.

I think some of the corrupted also passed away ady but the corruption legacy still lives on today.. It started in 80s during Liem Swee King days vs misbun.

LCW also dare not help the nation to clean them up. What hope is there? Biasa lah attitude.

The best is let Taufik name them. I am sure other nations like Denmark players was also in similar case like taufik. Those reading this must encourage taufik to name them. Or ask indonesian media to dig it out. Pay good money to taufik to expose them.

Time to punish the culprit and clean up. Zul or Tan CS wld not be in this position if the corruption did not start earlier. BWF also must investigate. Very sad.

This is a very good writeup from our fellow forumer. Lets not forget this. Worth to keep this. Very good analysis. That 1% mental is missing. lol :) Dont hate. Analyze it.

LCW is more than a sad case, he is a flop in general.

The excuse of "having many good players during his time" does not apply at all. It IS TRUE during pre-Beijing 2008 Olympics. Once that was past, Lee Chong Wei is technically an accomplished player with VERY few opponents able to beat him. Closer to 2011, he was literally unbeatable because his game was truly COMPLETE (no arguments/debates)

He failed himself generally by always losing at the wrong moment. Let's not just focus on Lin Dan and Olympics. Even in all World Championship events, he has been a true FLOP.

2007 - Lost to Sony, he cited pressure and scapegoated Yap Kim Hock for pressuring him. I mean bruv....you could manage to win multiple Malaysia Opens but not only world title event? Jeezzz

2009 - LOST TO SONY AGAIN!!!

2010 - LOST TO TAUFIK...he has been beating Taufik left right and centre in other events while to lose this once.

2011 - Lost to Lin Dan in a titanic battle by a point in London, unforgettable match. This match clearly proves Lee Chong Wei does not have the mental strength to win anything big

2013 - Lost to Lin Dan again, this time it's the fault of the air con ?

2014 - Lost to Chen Long ...serious ?

2015 - Lost to Chen Long again!!!! WTF two years in a row!!!

There you go, putting all these WC results together show LCW is a Big Flop no matter how the format changes. Even if WC is held semi-annually, I bet he still wont be able to win it.

Everyone is affected by Covid 19 and whoever wins, wins and Loh Kean Yew did well to stand out and handle the big event well. Let's not brush aside Srikanth. His drops and smashes ARE DEADLY! Had he not made stupid mistakes, it could have been a three game thriller.

As this stands, Loh Kean Yew is technically not as a good as LCW but at least LKY has achieved something Lee Chong Wei will never achieved and allegedly Lee ZiiJia wont be capable of doing so too. Something is very wrong with the Malaysian badminton players' mentality, attitude and character in general.
