Given how everybody and their mother talked about how he was an improvement over KSH in that area I don't think he was underrated to be quite frank :D
Still is a bit mind boggling how KSH/SBC have a WC Gold and LYD/YYS don't, given how short-lived that particular pairing was, but that final was one of the most insane matches of men's doubles in the history of the sport, imop. Still re-watch it sometimes.

It's also amazing how the only pair to win WC gold weren't sent to the Olympics. But I guess that's another discussion.

I also would've sent them over Kim/Kim, as they seemed to have more big tournament upset potential, which is exactly what Korea needed in their second pair. Kim/Kim were never gonna do much at the OG, never really impressed against the top pairs after their initial breakthrough, which was rather short-lived iirc

I think they were good pair. Better than Chai/Hong. They were thoroughly unlucky in the RioOlympics. It was one of the most one sided matches even in Olympics just not for ending. They took the lead for all the 3 games until almost the end. Safe to say, they lead for 90% of the match. Cant believe how fluke FuZhang won that Olympics not counting the Final too.

To be fair though, both Fu and Zhang are much better players than both Kims. So yeah, they didn't exactly win 5 tournaments in the lead up to these Games, but it wasn't as surprising as Malaysia winning two medals outside of LCWs, for example :D
Also, if you don't convert your leads, then you don't deserve the win, really...

Which one do you guys think is the best match of LYD? I am in the mood of rewatching his defensive playing style, pretty rare these days

You mean 2009? The tense 3gsetter against CY/FHF?
Apart from that I always recommend the 2008 AE SF and the 2010 HK Open Final. Super entertaining, both of them. 2011 Korea Open as well I think (or was it 2012?). Good old times when Korea was a total power house and the KO were huge :S

Totally agree! One of the classic rivalries in recent MD badminton history. Their matches were very thrilling!

There’s a rumour going around that LYD will be teaming up with Kim Gi Jung to play at the Spanish Masters next month. Anyone know if there’s any truth in that? Would be great to see him return although KGJ may not be an ideal partner for him.

they have played together before but can't remember where or when, although in India LYD partnered Kim Sa Rang.

I am stringing at Spanish Open so will be watching out for Lee as he knows me from stringing at All Englands for Victor. Victor is the main sponsor of the tournament so we are stringing for all players.

Paulso happens i got a question for such occasion!
Victor being a sponsor for the event, how is stringing for non Victor sponsored players handled?
Do they bring along their own string?

or the official stringer provides all the strings + stenciling?

I find KSR a much better player to partner LYD... but according to his coach, their personalities clash and it doesn't work out on court.

Kim Ki Jung has partnered LYD on multiple occasions in the last few years in domestic events while LYD was still playing for Samsung.
