Lin Dan, the world champion and last year's losing finalist, defeated Jamaluddin Mohd Hazwan of Malaysia 21-15, 21-19 in a first round clash. The Chinese player will face Malaysia's Yeoh Kay Bin who beat India's Anand Pawar 13-21, 21-15, 21-14. Defending champion and home favorite Lee Chong Wei is looking to complete a hat-trick of wins in the open after having clinched the title twice before consecutively. Lee swept aside Sukma gold medallist Mohd Syafiq Jamaluddin 21-9, 21-14, to set up a clash with Anup Sridhar of India. Danish world number three Peter Gade, fresh from winning the Singapore Open last week, overcame Tommy Sugiarto from Indonesia 21-17, 21-10. Roslin Hashim also made it through by beating Shahruddin Mohd Hafiz 21-9, 21 10 in an all-Malaysian encounter.
