what language or languages does lin dan speak/understand, is it mandarin?

I`m asking because at Swiss Open I tried to talk with him in English and I didn`t get far :crying:

 

i think he only knows mandarin English maybe know a bit but can't talk fluent English. This is because if he does't know how to speak english, how to talk to the umpire I think he knows cantonese too since XXF is a cantonese

 

Lin Dan comes from Fujian right? Cant he speak Hokkien?

y rojak hokkien from penang? isn't it the same as usual malaysia hokkien? but fujianese hokkien is very different from malaysia hokkien.
