Hong Wei's smash is really hard and sharp. in yesterday's match against the MAS PAIR, mas pair keep smashing at the chinese pair but the chinese manage to retrive it.. P/s when hong wei smash one time, the chinese pair got 1 point.. really hard though. Moreover, he's one hell of a tall guy!
Observations from Day2/Round1 Crowd ----- There were less than 20 spectators at the start of the schedule in the morning. this grew to about 200 at lunchtime. By about 6pm, it grew to more than 2000 (I reckon). Jan Jorgensen vs Du PengYu -------------------------- The small but loud crowd practically roused Jan Jorgensen to save 8 match points and win against Du PengYu. The rubber game was going 16-20, 17-20, 18-20, 19-20, 20-20, 20-21, 21-21, 21-22, 22-22, 22-23, 23-23, 23-24, 24-24, 25-24, 26-24. Jan was so thankful of the local support that he threw his racket into the delighted crowd. Player's Souvenirs ------------------ Besides Jan's racket, the crowd was also clamoring for Peter Gade's racket after his win (vs Wong WingKi). Peter (in Court 2) had finished his match 1 game before Jan's (in Court 1). Peter gestured to his bag while looking at the crowd as if to say "This is just Round 1. I need my rackets for the rest of the tournament. I may have something else in my bag for you." He pulled out a clean red shirt and threw into the crowd. There was also a woman player (also Danish, I think) who threw her wrist band into an appreciative crowd. Supporters and Flags -------------------- Supporters from Indonesia and Japan waved their flags. There was no Malaysia flag. Hope to see some today. Women Shorts vs Skorts ---------------------- Women have larger thighs and the shorts tend to ride up and interfere with movement. Those wearing white shorts - can see their panty line/color. Skorts, having 2 layers of materials, is actually more modest for women players and more interesting for men spectators. Camera and Flash ---------------- Lee Chong Wei, during his match vs Daren Liew, complained on the many camera flashes. An announcement was made to remind the spectators not to use flash photography. That seems to mean that photography is tolerated (but not when using the flash). In that case, I am going to bring my camera today and hope to catch something interesting. Fans should be aware that their camera flash only illuminates the subject at the rated distance - usually 3m-5m. They should switch the flash off so that their cameras can compensate with higher light sensitivity ISO. Well, I'm off to the stadium now.
