For the sake of convenience, I opened this thread to cover all the various minor tournaments, such as WTS100, International Challenge, International Series, and Junior events, including Future Series and others for which general interests in them are normally not high enough to catch our attention or worth opening a thread specifically for it. A sort of catch-all thread for the lesser or neglected events in the tournament calendar, one for each year, to facilitate interested members in posting their views and discussions. Perhaps the moderator might want to consider making it a sticky thread , in case it gets buried in the normal threads over time.
Ciputra Hanoi - Yonex Sunrise Vietnam International Challenge 2018 https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/...B28C8F-2A3D-4CFD-AA87-98D60602D2BC&d=20180322 The above tournament starts on Thursday, 22nd March, and Kento Momota is the top seed in MS.
I can't understand why Mainaky siblings from INA keep participating in any tourney although they always lose in R1. They should use their money to hire better coach and use more time to practice before joining tourney.
I noticed that the Vietnam Int'l Challenge was originally scheduled to start on the 20th, March, Tuesday but was postponed to 22nd Thursday and still ending on 25th, i.e. shortened to four days, including the qualification rounds, instead of the usual five days for the main draw alone. That means , besides the qualies, two matches will be played on some days for the main draws, physically stretching the players. I understand the reeschedule was caused by the passing away of the former Vietnam prime minister Phan Van Khai five days ago, on 17th March, Saturday and the state funeral held on 20th March, Tuesday.
Kento Momota is overwhelming favourite here, don't see any major threat who could deny his mission to scoop 4,000 ranking points.
Justin. Great idea to have this Thread. It's always good to see how the up and coming youngsters perform. Thank you
Since there is no Vietnam IC Livescore available at TS website. You could still have the Livescore from this site : https://www.sofascore.com/badminton
Vietnam IC - Kento Momota cleared R2 beating SIN Loh Kean Yew, 21-17,21-18, who apparently acquitted himself well going by the score. Next round , he faces TPE Hsueh Hsuan Yi.
I thought that this particular tournament would be a shoo-in for Momota. But it appears that seed no. 2 Nguyen Tien Minh has beaten him in three out of four matches, albeit a few years ago.
at the current level, I don't see Momota losing to him anymore time has passed considerably since NTM was in his prime
Momota will be facing Krishna Adi Nugraha in the SF. This player took Momota to three games in last November's Macao Open.
Some of the unknown or no-name players are beating the better known ones - the following are knocked out yesterday : WS Hanna Ramadini, WS Natsuki Nidaira, MS Firman Kholik, MS Lin Yu Hsien.
Viet veteran warrior Nguyen Tien Minh, who disposed of the current WJC Kunlavut Vitidsarn, is himself eliminated by another youngster, Wisnu Prasetyo, by the narrowest of margin, 21-23 in the decider. MAS MS Chong Yee Han, who did well to oust Firman Kholik , was stopped by his teammate, Goh Giap Chin, today. Originally, I was thinking Firman Kholik might pose a challenge to Kento Momota, now I don't see anyone left posing a threat to him. Again, two matches each will played today for those who advanced to the semifinals.
Oh, OK thanks (I should've checked his age first before posting, which I normally do but overlooked this time).
this Wisnu Yuli is actually pretty useless player in international stage ... he mostly rules in regional championships ...
When Liu Haichao lost to Goh Giap Chin in three sets, I thought he was disappointing and now GGC is in the final to take on Kento Momota. Still I don't expect KM not to prevail over him with a straightforward victory tomorrow.
Indonesia men's singles department practically will rely on Jojo-Anthony. Both Ihsan & Firman can't fulfill the expectation, nothing stunning breakthrough so far.
