About the tension, is it true that thicker strings should be strung on higher tension? Someone told me once, BG80 should be strung on its maximum tension because of its thickness (0.68); compared to..let's say NBG98 (0.66).
I believe so... I've been using BG80 (29 lbs) for my YY AT900T; yet I didn't feel the string contributes more power especially when I'm doing clear shots (previously I was using BG66 28 lbs). Last week the string broke. Now I'm using NBG98 (29 lbs), but haven't tried it yet.
Generally speaking a thicker string "can" take more tension before it snaps. So it is mostly a durability issue. I think thinner strings usually feels tighter at the same tension.. /Twobeer
need help on stringing I'm currently using BG 66, 25 lbs. I am offensive type of player that smash a lot. I've been using BG66 for quite a long time I wanted to try a new string. I've read most of the thread from here and I can see most of the people recommended either BG80, NBG 95/98. Durability is not significant to me. So i'm looking for string that can provides a better performance on smashing and a better control. I could use a lil bit of advice and recommendation on LI-Ning's string too because i tend to try it out also. P.S : I've not tried any other string other than BG 66 =p
I've been using Li-ning Accupower90 (AP90) and they are pretty amazing. 0.67mm Description - Superior repulsion power and control Durability: 8 Repulsion power: 10 Control: 9 Hitting sound: 8 Tension: 8 They give a very crisp and metallic feeling and sound Definitely recommend. My Victor BS11 is currently being strung with Li-ning AP85, the ratings arent as good, though i need to see for myself. Hope this helped
should i go slightly lower tension, if currently using BG66 28lbs and moving on to try BG80? any advice ?
There are many reputable shops out there which provides competitive pricing. Why would someone risk getting fake strings from a free lancer?
does BG80 has more repulsion power for smashing compared to BG66, BG85, BGY98? and about the Medium & Hard feel on the string package, what do they mean actually?
Out of all the strings you listed, i'd say bg80 is about on par with 85, but less than nbg98 and bg66. The feeling on the string package actually mean soft, medium hard feeling, meaning with a soft feeling string it will absorb shock and feel like you didn't hit anything, medium feeling=you can feel the impact of the shuttle, and hard feels stiff. I like using medium/hard feeling, soft strings feel funky for me
i dont know but i hit louder with Apacs Tantrum 200 (Stiff) (BG66 Ultimax @ 24lbs) compared to Fischer Black Granite X-Lite (Soft) (BG66 @ 20lbs)
just wondering why do people lower the tension 1-2 lbs when using BG80? i thought bg80 was suppose to be powerful so if you increase your tension you would make it less powerful, however that would be the same power as most strings but with added control you get from the higher tension.
If you played with bg-65 at 28lbs and want to try bg-80 but with the same stringbed feel then you string 1-2lbs lower. BG-80 is a thinner string and will feel stiffer at the same tension as a thicker string like bg-65.
BG65 loses tension up to 30% depending, after it is strung. Which is why you would string tighter to begin with. Also, it plays well at higher tensions. BG80 tends to retain tension after stringing, and may lose around 10% over time. That is why you can string at lower tensions than BG65.
