Great News! Ou DongNi and Yu XiaoHan has registered to play in WD at the upcoming China Masters.

Watching them play, Yu XiaoHan's powerful smashes instantly make an impression. Less noticable was her deftness at the net and highly effective mid court interception. The handicap of this pair is that Yu XiaoHan's heft limits her mobility. That's where Ou DongNi comes into play. Ou DongNi, despite of her diminutive frame, is a complete player who is capable of playing front, back and everywhere on the court. Ou DongNi allows Yu XiaoHan the option to stay at the back to fire away or move into the front to show off her other talents. Their unconventional tactic was a joy to watch on court and created headaches for their opponents.

After their Singapore Open success, this pair had hit the lowest of lows. First, they were snubbed of the opportunity to play at the World Championships, despite of their top 10 ranking. Then, Yu XiaoHan was involved in a pharmaceutical controversy that saw her suspended from competitions. BWF's final report was a bit of a mess but the rendered penalty was a sensible one. And now Yu XiaoHan is free to play again.

It seems that their prior success was not lost on the minds of the power that be. Ou DongNi and Yu XiaoHan are together back again. Given the current sorry state of Chinese WD pairs, their return comes not a moment too soon. Let's hope that they can put all the unpleasantness behind and resume their rise to the top tier.

Their first Super Series Title at the Singapore Open

You can watch how a 17 year old Ou DongNi pushed Wang Lin (who won the World Championships a month later) to the limit at Chinese Badminton Super League competition, in singles:

In fact OU Dongni/YU Xiaohan beat the WR1 WD Misaki MATSUTOMO/Ayaka TAKAHASHI twice, maintaining a two-nil H2H.

Yup, they did well against the WR#1 pair. Ou DongNi is 4:0 against MM/AT, having also one victory each playing with Tang YuanTing and Xiong Rui.

Speaking of Ou DongNi, her family name should be 区,not 欧. My mistake. Would admin please help changing the title? Thanks a lot.
