:crying: so sad that it's not pushing through... we bought our tickets weeks ago and so excited about it -- now what just because of the state of emergency announcement? UNFAIR!!! :crying:
Well, I'll still be here, but my schedule might not allow me to watch it live! :crying: That's why I wanted a refund, so if I can make it, I will buy the tickets then. I already cancelled all my appointments for this one. Oh well, back to watching my badminton torrents!
Yeah, that would be nice. But the capitalists might want to really hold it separately to earn more profit from sponsors and ticket sales. Besides, the MVP cup was rumored to be a yearly tradition already, as such, there is a schedule for it already this July. It's the Philippine Open that should be a separate competition. IMHO
Yeah, but actually, if we get enough good players to join in, it will become a yearly event here! Who knows, maybe more than the four-star rating it was given!
I think the rating is based on prize money available. At $120K its a 4* but combine that with the 100K of the MVP CUp and add 30K that makes it a 6* event.
Badminton national coach rues RP Open postponement First posted 02:01am (Mla time) Mar 02, 2006 By Marc Anthony Reyes Inquirer THE DECISION to postpone the first Philippine Open badminton championships will hurt the country’s short-term recovery plan, national head coach Errol Chan said yesterday. Chan said the Open, which is supposed to be the country’s coming out party in the international badminton circuit, will also help determine the players of the new national squad. He noted that 20 national-level shuttlers have already signed up for the Open, which was supposed to be held this week but had to be postponed following the government’s declaration of a state of national emergency. Chan said it’s unfortunate that the Open got relegated to the far end of the International Badminton Federation calendar sometime in September. “It is in the guidelines of IBF that if any host country announced a state of emergency, the event will have to be automatically postponed,” he said. Chan said he would just push through with his own selection process in picking players 25 years old and younger who will be sent to Malaysia for an intensive two-month training and competition stint. The newly installed coach said they are looking at fielding a solid team in the Asian Games in December as well as in the Philippine Open in September. “We don’t want anybody telling us that they got denied slots in the Open,” said Chan. “Unlike in the Southeast Asian Games, we can field as many players as possible in the Open.”
Lack of top names Without China, Korea and Indonesia participating, it will be hard for this tournament to shine, what a shame! Lets hope the coming Malaysia/Singapore Opens can attract all badminton power house. Wonder which players will team Denmark send? Yannie, Mag?
