Recommendation on new strings to try?

I’m currently using the BG66 Ultimax with a Victor ARS 90K Metallic, and it loses tension really fast and just gets a soft and floppy feeling after a few games. Any recommendations for strings that can generate similar repulsion while retaining tension?

I’ve seen people recommend the Li Ning 1, Exbolt 63, and VBS 63. Also seeing the Aerobite one recommended a lot even though it’s classified as control. Is there anyone who’s tried those and could recommend one?

Don't use thin strings. Try BG80. Thin strings at such tension is prone to breakage too. Kizuna Z66 is also good.

I use Exbolt 63 and BG80 Power with my 90K Metallic @29x30lbs. The two most used strings on my rackets..
Both have decent tension hold.
XB63 is a bit softer than 80P.
XB63 has slightly better control and 80P has slightly better smash power ceiling.

I used VBS63 and Exbolt 63 last year. VBS63 lost tension very fast and felt soft after a few games, Exbolt 63 holds tension better.

I would recommend Ashaway Zymax Strings.

Was long time ago BG66 Ultimax user and also hated this string for being a tournament string which feels dull after a few hours. FME pre-stretch makes it even worse and let the string feel dead faster. I would recommend anybody to try No.1 or N65 or G-Tone 5 (has much harder feel) if you want to stay in the same range of repulsion. BG80 absolute different string. Especially the unique feel of BG80 with nearly no real replacement just close types seems not a good replacement. And TBH I played BG80 quite long too, the tension retention is not as good as often stated and especially fresh BG80 is quite prone to break early at higher tension on mishits. And Zymax? Lol, read a lot that they are superb at holding tension here, but never experienced this, while they are thicker than other strings at the same gauge and felt too soft for me.

Aight I'll try the Exbolt 63 and see what happens I'll send an update later in case anyone else runs into the same problem

I'm a long time Ultimax user too & have tried all versions of BG66 and also BG80P, but none was able to produce the good repulsion and hitting sound like Ultimax but yea the string tension doesn't hold for long. Recently 2 of my racket's string broke & I'm looking to try Victor's VBS66N, anyone tried it before?

My road was

-> BG80 (nice hard feeling and grip, but bad tension hold)
-> BG66UM (medium feeling, more repulsion, more slippery, same problems with tension hold)
-> EXB63 (similar to BG66UM, but better tension hold with a little less in repulsion)
-> VBS63 (seems to be good combination of repulsion and control, but soft feeling and bad tension hold)

Now I’m going to try Zymax TX64 and hope to find grip and tension hold, but I probably expect only medium feeling.

The best for me would be a BG80 with more tension hold or a Zymax TX64 with more hard feeling. Any ideas?

I am curious about the Zymax series against the BG80 (so also the TX68 or the 66fire/firepower), please share your results!

They didn’t have it lol so I just went for VBS 63
Just played with it, feels super similar to the BG66U but with an obviously thinner gauge. Has better power on clears and stick smashes and a crisp and fast response time on pushes. Slice shots were harder to execute without the thickness of the BG66 or the coating of the Aerobite and nets felt hard to control, almost like the shuttle just bounces away with no force added. I'm confident with some adjustment this will improve though. I'll send another update about tension hold in like a month.

I use BG80 and the tension drops from 28lbs to 26lbs in a month. However, if you ask your stringer to pre-stretch your strings by 10%, it helps to keep a more consistent tension over time. That's what pro players like Viktor Axelson uses.
