Someone told me that federal/provincial safety regulators have issues with ClearOne before because the building is a warehouse converted into a sport facility (perhaps inadequate heating/ventilation concerns:confused:?). I wonder if the new facility might encounter similar problems.

Don't know about that but will have to check it out. The fact that ClearOne is able to operate probably means that it isn't a problem. I know that they still haven't got permission to put out a sign yet. There are a lot of requirements like number of parking spaces, etc.

    Hi WWC,
Haven't seen you for a while. Keep us posted on your project, and personally I would like to have a gym with high ceiling and wood floors - you know age is really catching up.

Wish you success in your ventures. :)

Hey WWC, would your facility need a stringer by any chance? I know this guy called Traum who string racquets, and I heard he is looking for work. :D

btw, is the floor gonna be wooden or Gerflor? I'd personally prefer Gerflor a lot more than the typical wooden floor, but cost might be an issue.

We are definitely looking at court mats (Gerflor or another brand) on a wooden subfloor for better give.

Hehehe...still got some work left on who's gonna do what within the new org.

SmashingBird has just re-defined "security guard" to "door bouncer."

BTW, would the facility need any coaches as well? I'm almost done with my NCCP level 1 certification la.

(Can't you tell I'm sooooooo desperate for money? :D )

WWC, how concrete has this idea become? Only asking because I have a potential coach for the facility. Badrad and I have recently met someone who would be quite qualified for the position. In fact, this person would instantly become one of the most qualified coaches in BC. Please PM either badrad or I for details if you're interested.

    Update...

The facility in mind fell through as it was a sublease and the sublandlord was not willing to give us the lead time (to install and set up the courts) without charging us.

So, we are now looking at alternative locations (which most likely will have lower ceiling but is trying not to get one that is around the height at ClearOne).

I think he meant in as a negative, discouraging sort of tone. Like *sigh* lower. :D

Assuming that you do managed to get a suitable place for the new club... what's the lead time you'll be working with?

Yeah, higher than C1 but probably lower than the original location.

Lead time is all dependent on securing a location and then going through all the paperwork/permits/licences, etc. to set up the facility. This is estimated to take 12-16 weeks. Obviously during that time, we will be actively marketing the new fac and recruiting members :D

    Latest update...

...well, after months of searching and looking at a number of places, it seems that unless we go for a 24' height facility, it is very doubtful if we can actually find a suitable location with high ceiling.

The other alternative is to custom-build which is going to take time and $$.

    WWC,

Glad to hear from you again. Where exactly would this place be? Would 24' ceiling be as high as C1? Having a good location would be a good start. With decent flooring and lighting, I am sure that could compensate for the height. How many courts would there be if you're to setup there?

    Sorry for the delay.

Location will most probably be around N. Richmond area (a couple of possibilities, (a) close to Costco; and (b) close to IKEA.

Most likely the flooring with be court mats (Taraflex or equivalent) similar to ClearOne and ample spacing around the courts. Lighting will be done to minimize glare.

We are looking at between 8 to 10 courts.
