Is that arrival time or the time you think you'll get out of immigration? Might be a bit ambitious for the checkin time at hotel. Quite straightforward to walk from Union Square to the station. It's about 15-20 min walk. Quite a number of buses go down that road as well. I am so jealous :crying:
Canadian travellers to the US actually clear US Customs in Vancouver Airport, before flying off to their US destination. -dave
Hahaha...Thanks Wood_22_Chuck. Actually the 4th/King Caltrain station is about a 25 min walk from the hotel and the train schedule says southbay goes every hour on the hour so 3pm is pretty optimistic. Most likely it will be the 4pm train getting to Sunnyvale around 5:20-ish. I'm planning to meet up with samkool at the 4th/King station but we will still hoping to get a ride from someone from the Sunnyvale station (121 W Evelyn Ave) otherwise it's another 30mins by bus.
WWC, Not sure if I'm going to be around the southbay area (Sunnyvale/Mountain View)- if I am I'll let you know and I can give you a ride. I'll confirm later this week before you leave. Regarding public transport from Union Square. You can take a muni light rail from Union Square to the Caltrain depot. The light rail is in the same station as the BART, it will be on the opposite side and uses a different platform. I think you can buy some type of passport that allows travel on both the BART and Muni light rail. The light rail you can take is called "N-Judah/Caltrain Depot" (sometimes it will be called Mission Bay). Here's the link for more info: http://www.sfmuni.com prophet
playing saturday and sunday... cool... i should be able to play at least one of the two days, maybe both days. i should be able to pick you guys up also. i will let you know.
the light rail takes the long way around. it would take 20 minutes. from market street the #45 bus goes straight down 4th street. takes about 7 minutes or less. >You can take a muni light rail from Union Square to the >Caltrain depot. Hi guys, Thanks. It would be nice to get a ride. Here's what's planned so far. Saturday is a go so Samkool and I will take the 4pm train down to Sunnyvale and hopefully meet up with our ride. As for Sunday, another BF-er (Kineda) has asked me to play in a tourney at Berkeley so am awaiting further information. If that doesn't work out, then I would planned to head down to BinTang again. I won't be able to make any of the weekday evenings as those will be taken up by conference events. Let's do a final confirmation before the end of this week.
just checked the caltrain schedule. on Saturdays, there is a train every hour departing from SF. the last return train is 10.44pm on Saturday.
the 4pm train arrives as 5.19pm. i suggest we go grab a quick bite before we head to Bintang. there is a pretty ok Vietnamese Pho place close to Bintang which i go to often (you wonder why... ). alternatively, there are a lot of restaurants near the Sunnyvale caltrain station.
actually, i wonder if it is easier to call up your hotel for a late check in instead. SFO is quite far away from SF. it makes more sense to go straight to Bintang from the airport and then head back to the hotel afterwards. you can take the earlier 9pm train instead of the 10.44pm last train. and get well rested for the next morning. more time for badminton...
this is a good opportunity to get all the bay area BF'ers together and play some badminton. IIRC, sat/sun evenings are the least crowded evenings in Bintang. so come and join WWC, samkool and i for some badminton games. we will try to stay as late as possible.
that's cool. likely i will be at Bintang from 2pm onwards. i will drag you along when i go pick up WWC/samkool so we can all go eat at the Pho place. Trunkz69 is interested as well.
Hahaha...work is the secondary reason that I'm there Kwun, Sounds good. Let's grab a bite to eat before heading up to BinTang. I will still want to check in before heading out though (wouldn't want to drag my luggage around the Southbay area)
WWC, looks like Kwun will be taking care of you. You are in good hands, so enjoy the pho and badminton. If I'm free, I'll zip by Bintang to hang out and play with the rest of the BF gang. prophet
As a reminder to WWC, bring a sweater to wear in the gym. It's really cold inside and you will need to play a few games before you start feeling warm.
Joseph, Thanks but I'm from Canada and a low of 47F is mild unless BinTang put on the air conditioner but will have a jacket with me. Looks like Samkool is unable to make it due to a last minute appointment. I will phone Kwun once I get into the hotel and confirm the time. At this stage, unless the flight is delayed, I'm still planning to get to Sunnyvale at around 5:20pm.
Phew! Finally got into SF around 1pm (flight got in early) and after taking a short break at the hotel, I phoned Kwun and arranged a time for pickup at the Sunnyvale station. We got to BinTang around 5:40 and played about three games before heading out for a bite to eat with Joseph and Trunkz and then headed back for another session. Unfortunately I misread the train scheduled and left at 9pm to catch the 9:14 pm train (only on Sun not Sat!!) and ended waiting an hour and a half for the last train. Could have used the time to play more (not that I could after suffering minor cramps in the legs). Good games. Joseph (the quiet one was very quick and effective) and Trunk (the lefty) has all the fancy shots. BUT exprience prevaled! Hahahha... Will try and get out there today. Legs are okay (sore but okay).
