Singles tables below are the ranking points between Wk31-2015 and Wk30-2016 to determine the seeds for the 2016 Olympic Games. According to Olympic Games regulations (http://www.bwfbadminton.org/file.aspx?id=615925&dl=1 ) top 2 seeds will be placed at opposite halves, No3 and 4 seeds will be drawn to opposite halves etc. Tables below incl. the recently completed All England 2016. deleted, latest tables start from post#12 below.
excellent thread. may i suggest changing the title to "Qualifications and Seeding for 2016 Olympics".
don't think I can change the title now, anyway the tables started from Wk31-2015 that excl some points for qualification.
Thanks, Alan, appreciate it. I think your calculations are based on the Race to Rio qualification events which determines who get the OG spots. But I thought the seedings is based on the BWF world ranking as at July 1st(?)(I forgot the exact date offhand).
not quite, they are based on the 12 months prior to the seeding date, 21 July 2016. i.e. ranking points from 30 July 2015.
i've incl an extra column to show the 10th largest points that would be replaced by the next higher tournament points. deleted, latest tables start from post#12 below.

As far as I know, the point for Rio cannot decreased by any way. The only possible change is increasing. Check BWF World Rankings for Olympic Qualification (4/21/2016) here: http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/ranking/ranking.aspx?rid=175 Chen Long already have 90331 Points Lee Chong Wei already have 84303 Points How can your calculation just below the result of BWF Released? Your data "updated to bwf's listing of 21-04-2016" mismatched with "BWF World Rankings for Olympic Qualification (4/21/2016)"
Seeding will be based on bwf’s list on week 30 21/7/2016. Current BWF lists (for the last 52 weeks) incl points gained before 23/7/2015 as against the list I’ve calculated to exclude them. That’s why the points on my list are lesser than the current list as it still has a few months to go.
the qualification for RIO is based on the ranking list on 5 May 2016 thus the points for RIO can still be increased/decreased by this weeks results. as they say everything to fight for.
